All Tests - When BMW finally launches its little roadster! - The most affordable BMW

Since the discontinuation of the R 850 R, the range of BMW Motorrad had no small roadster. An absence that was particularly felt in France, where this type of motorcycle represents the highest volumes of sales. Direction Nice… under the rain !

The most affordable BMW

David Robb and his team of designers have been working at BMW Motorrad for ten years. And they were able, once again, to distinguish the German roadster from the competition. The look is 100% Behème: asymmetrical front optics, chunky general appearance, classic colors … Oh no, except this orange Site !

According to Jean-Michel Cavret, while the white and the gray are destined to "traditional customers", the orange version"should attract new customers"… Which is very interesting, since"at BMW, we manage to keep them", gladly slips the CEO of BMW Motorrad France !

In the opinion of its press manager, BMW will even have to "buy cans of orange paint and salespeople change their minds", as it is true that this color gives the novelty the sparkle and youthfulness that is sometimes lacking in the German manufacturer.

A rejuvenation treatment even more effective than a brushstroke: the exploits of the prodigious stunter Chris Pfeiffer on his F 800 R now make BMW rhyme with virtuosity, dexterity, even "too much phew!"…

By continuing around the owner – and waiting in vain for the dark clouds to recede – we appreciate the level of finish of the bike, even if it is slightly lower than that of its predecessors. Satisfactory on this point, the F 800 R still leaves a few threads lying around here and there, while the passenger footrests are not the most aesthetic…

The double swingarm, on the other hand, is carefully designed: it almost makes you forget the absence of single-sided arms, even if the latter would have served the rear rim much better. The latter, borrowed – like the front one – from the sporty version F 800 S, is very beautiful.

Engine painted black, frame uncovered: these two elements already present on the S and ST take on the roadster raw and massive aspects that will delight bikers wishing to ride mechanical.

The latter will remain hungry for more by inspecting the front axle of the BMW: no inverted fork or radial-mounted brake calipers, and a slightly wrapped fender – I didn’t say big! -, which does not really correspond to the current canons.

We note in passing that BMW left the steering damper that was already found on the F 800 S and ST. Would German engineers be wary of the behavior of the front end of their 800s? The trials – under the African sun! – the sports car and the road had nothing to show.
