For many bikers, motorcycling is just a hobby and therefore pure leisure time enjoyment. The smaller part of the bikers rely on the motorcycle as a car replacement or exclusive mobility. Check 24 has now launched an annual mileage evaluation by federal states in 2020 based on all motor vehicle insurance contracts for motorcycles via the comparison portal.

Berliners go the farthest

Accordingly, the German marathon riders live in Berlin. Berlin motorcyclists covered an average of 5,254 kilometers in 2020. Berlin as the capital of long-distance drivers – that may surprise you. Check24 also provides a possible explanation. The federal capital has a high volume of traffic and few parking spaces. Accordingly, a two-wheeler can score here. Correspondingly, Check24 explains that Berlin regularly lands at the bottom of the annual mileage of car owners.

But the Berliners don’t really do much more kilometers than bikers in the other federal states. Baden-Wurttemberg is listed with 5,100 kilometers, Bavaria with 5,088 kilometers, North Rhine-Westphalia with 5.46 kilometers, Brandenburg with 5,049 kilometers, Lower Saxony with 5,016 kilometers and Bremen with 5,002 kilometers. The Hanseatic city is thus very close to the annual average of 5,006 kilometers across all federal states. Even in Thuringia, which is at the bottom of the list, motorcyclists cover 4,483 kilometers each year. In 2015, the comparison portal had determined an annual average mileage of 5,310 kilometers nationwide.

Conclusion

Check24 calculates on the basis of its database that the average motorcyclist in Germany tears a good 5,000 kilometers a year. My experience tells me that many people cover significantly fewer kilometers, but a few significantly more.
