Box vans are basically transport donkeys. Due to their compact dimensions, they are extremely popular as a base for camper vans in the leisure industry. Especially the two large, completely swiveling rear doors on Fiat Ducato, Sprinter & Co. make loading and unloading easier. Especially if a motorcycle should also be on board. The emphasis is on “one”, because two motorcycles rarely fit in the hold.

MOTORRAD looked around the market together with colleagues from promobil and found eight campervan manufacturers who offer special solutions for motorcycle transport ex works.

Citroën Biker Solution

Citroën is primarily known in the leisure industry as a basic vehicle manufacturer. Since 2018, the commercial vehicle manufacturer, together with Flexebu, has been offering exclusive panel van conversions that are geared towards motorcycle transport. Overall, the manufacturer’s offer includes two versions: Classic and Multi.

Interior construction: The Biker Solution from Citroën is fully equipped with the patented stainless steel rail clip system from Flexebu. This means that the interior fittings can be dismantled in a few simple steps and the camper van becomes an empty van again. When expanded, the camper van has a compact kitchen with a refrigerator, a high storage cupboard and a lengthways rear sofa that becomes a large double bed across the entire width of the vehicle in the evening and after the motorcycle has been unloaded.

Transport motorcycle: While the Classic version is equipped with two fixed transport rails including an electric cable winch for the motorcycle, the Multi version comes with a rail system from Schnierle and a wider access ramp, which can also be used to transport quads, for example. The biker model from Dipa on VW Crafter offers a large rear garage for the motorcycle.

Dipa has been converting VW vehicles into campers for 30 years. In addition to classic Bulli conversions on VW T models, the manufacturer also offers vehicles the size of a panel van on the VW Crafter with its so-called Bussard series. In addition to the fixed range of models, the manufacturer responds to any individual requests for the extensions.

Interior construction: The Dipa Biker has a high-seated double bed in the rear, under which there is space for the transport garage. The center of the vehicle consists of a compact kitchen with a raised refrigerator and a tall storage cupboard opposite. Instead of a classic seating group, the Dipa Biker offers a longitudinal bench seat with a swiveling table at the front end. In this way, the table can be used when sitting in the upturned pilot’s seats.

Transport motorcycle: If the two rear doors are open, a wide, permanently installed access ramp can be folded down. The motorcycle then enters the garage. In the rear, the bike is secured in a front wheel bracket and lashing eyes. So that loading is easier and the risk of head bumps is minimized, the rear bed can be pushed up via gas pressure springs and can be held under the ceiling. To supply the motorcycle, there is additional space on the right-hand side of the vehicle for motorcycle accessories such as canisters.

There are a total of 3 different versions of the Ka-Mobil motocamp.

A small builder who has also dedicated himself to transporting motorcycles is Ka-Mobile with his MotoCamper. In addition to the motorcycle camper on a Fiat Ducato, the manufacturer offers individual extensions for camper vans, loading systems for vans and various camping accessories.

Interior construction: There are a total of three lengths of the MotoCampers with different layouts. In the rear, the buses have either a transverse or lengthwise bed, and in the front area a classic dinette. While the MotoCamper 1 and MotorCamper L models are equipped with a toilet, the longest MotoCamper L PP model only has a porta potti on board; but more space for the motorcycle.

The rear has benches that can be converted into a bed measuring 2.00 x 1.80 meters for sleeping. In addition to the 6-meter version, the camper van is also available as a 6.36-meter version and even offers a compact bathroom with shower.
