The Indian Bajaj group has registered the name Freerider in India for use on motorized two-wheelers. The connections to KTM allow certain conclusions.

Bajaj is an industrial giant and a large two-wheeler manufacturer in India. Bajaj is also closely associated with KTM, since Bajaj holds 48 percent of the KTM shares and builds numerous small-volume models for the Austrians in its Indian plants.

Bajaj has now patented the Freerider model name in India. Registered under class 12, Freerider is protected for use with motorized two-, three- and four-wheelers, also with electric drive, as well as accessories for corresponding vehicles.

Large numbers expected

However, insiders in India want to know where we will find the name Freerider again. Supposedly, Bajaj wants to bring an electrically powered motorcycle to the Indian market under this name. The basis for this is provided by the prototype that was just presented Husqvarna E-Pilen. The Bajaj E-Pilen would then compete with an 8 kW electric motor and a range of around 100 kilometers.

KTM and Bajaj had already agreed in mid-2019 to develop electric vehicles in the power range between 3 and 10 kW (48 volts). Series production should begin by 2022 at the Bajaj production site in Pune / India.

If so, then only a powerful electric motorcycle.

I can imagine an electric scooter for commuting and city traffic.

A small, agile electric moped is definitely fun.

None at all.

Conclusion

This would result in important economies of scale for KTM / Husqvarna, because On the government side, India relies heavily on electromobility – Accordingly, high numbers would be expected from a freerider.
