66 reasons for a trip to NRW

The freelance journalist and photographer Sabine Welte has written a motorcycle tour guide for North Rhine-Westphalia: “The motorcyclist who drove out of the garage and disappeared … and 66 places where you can find it in North Rhine-Westphalia”. We read the book and tell you what we think of it.

The book promises to be a motorcycle tour guide that every biker can use whether speed-loving, culture-loving or party-loving – you get your money’s worth. There are 66 travel destinations to explore, as the title suggests. They are divided into six regions, which gives the reader a good overview in the table of contents. If you do not want to orient yourself to the regions, you can use the topic register as an aid. It lists the travel destinations, sorted according to the topics of bike get-togethers and shows, sights, bends, and panorama and landscape highlights.

The NRW map in the book cover not only shows the destinations as digits, but also selected motorcycle routes. Colors mark the routes as cruising or curve fun routes, whereby the GPS data can be downloaded from the Bruckmann Verlag website. So that you don’t have to use a magnifying glass right away, each regional chapter shows the relevant section of the map again enlarged at the beginning. However, one misses map sections directly on the travel destination page. So the reader has to page back every time he wants to get an idea of where the goal is exactly.

Goals for everyone

The travel destinations in the tour guide are of various kinds and are in the regions from the Rhineland to the Lower Rhine, the Ruhr area, Sauerland and Siegerland, Bergisches Land, Munsterland, and from Weserberg to Lipperland. Starting with numerous tourist attractions in the larger cities, castles, museums, monuments and buildings, through event locations and trade fairs to scenic areas and lots of biker get-togethers, the guide offers destinations for everyone. One or the other travel destination that you wouldn’t necessarily associate with a motorcycle tour, like cycling “Around Cologne” or various amusement parks, is also included in the guide and inspires you to go to something other than the classic biker hangout on your next motorcycle trip.

Popular sayings and quotes from locals that go with the region adorn some pages, and some nice anecdotes can be read under the red-printed notes next to the text. Every now and then the book even gives practical tips and hints, e.g. B. Which parking options for the motorcycle can be used in the vicinity of the targeted sight.

Inspiration and good reasons for a NRW tour

Unfortunately, some of the destinations that the text describes are difficult to find on the map because they are not specially marked. The connection between the routes described in the text and those drawn on the map is sometimes difficult to understand. They are not always identical, which is why you sometimes spend a long time looking for a place mentioned that is not on any of the routes shown.

Nevertheless, the motorcycle tour guide provides great inspiration and 66 good reasons to plan your next trip in North Rhine-Westphalia. However, it is not a great help in route planning. This book is more about the goals, activities and refreshments along the way than about the way itself. It definitely makes you want to go on the next motorcycle tour.
