The shape of the brake caliper cites the first model from 1972, which was installed on Ducatis, Moto Guzzi and BMWs for a long time until the 1980s.

The use of light and color also makes it possible, says Brembo, “Receive data and information about the condition of the vehicle and about the brake caliper itself.”

The word combination Brembo and Sessanta should only light up a few head LEDs. Most people are familiar with Signore Sessanta’s design, as it adorns entire generations of Ducatis, Moto Guzzis and BMWs as the standard brake caliper of the 1970s and early 1980s. In 2021, Brembo will be 60 and has chosen the successful saddle back then, translated it into today, christened it New G Sessanta and illuminated it with a phalanx of LEDs and acrylic fins.

Control via app

No joke: the brake caliper lights up, the colors can be controlled via the smartphone app. The classically designed single-piston fixed caliper has six fins made of acrylic glass on the top, which can be illuminated in multiple colors by LEDs, and the logo in the housing wall is provided with a ring of LEDs.

Security and positioning

Playing with light is interesting enough in itself, but Brembo would like to give the LED system additional functions. On the one hand, the LEDs should indicate the technical condition of the motorcycle and the brake system itself, and on the other hand, the location of the vehicle should be indicated by remote triggering.

Conclusion

No, it’s not April 1st, but Brembo’s 60th birthday. And they come up with something very interesting and light up a brake caliper. Currently only one study, the technology will soon be found in selected products, possibly also legally applicable in road traffic.
