Although the Sotera Advanced Helmet is so far only a concept, the smart helmet could still provide more safety on the roads in the future.

At first glance, the Sotera Advanced Helmet, which was designed by New York designer Joe Doucet, looks like a simple jet helmet. However, the smart helmet can do a lot more. Thanks to an LED panel on the lower half of the helmet, the Sotera Advanced Helmet can change its color. Otherwise the helmet is made of fiberglass and polycarbonate. The transparent visor should protect against wind and rain. However, as already mentioned, the lower half of the helmet is really interesting.

The helmet lights up red when the driver brakes

Joe Doucet’s goal was to prevent accidents in advance. If the driver brakes, the lower half of the helmet lights up red, similar to a normal brake light. A helmet that suddenly lights up red could thus significantly increase the attention of road users driving behind. With the help of an accelerometer, the helmet notices when the driver is decelerating. The helmet is charged via a USB port. By the way, other colors can also be displayed.

The helmet signals to road users driving behind when the pilot brakes.

Incidentally, Joe Doucet did not apply for a patent for his idea. On the contrary: the New Yorker even calls on manufacturers to integrate his idea into their own products. The safety and the avoidance of possibly even fatal accidents are his top priority. Although Doucet had initially planned to develop and patent the helmet himself, he decided against it again relatively quickly.
