Citroën is expanding its range of Biker Solution models based on the Citroën Jumper with the new Multi. It offers a new charging system and is even more flexible. We tested it.

Under the nickname Solution, Citroën offers industry-specific or application-specific expansion solutions for its commercial vehicles. The Biker Solution models are aimed at motorcyclists who would like to take their two-wheelers with them in a motorhome. Be it for a short vacation, a weekend on the race track or a combined camping-motorcycle vacation. The Classic version with an attached rail system was presented in 2018. New for 2019 is the flexible multi-version, which is based on an intensive brainstorming session with the MOTORRAD editorial team. It was developed and implemented by Citroën again in cooperation with the builder Flexebu.
Approved as a four-seater
The basis for the Multi is again the Citroën Transporter Jumper in the L3H2 version with a wheelbase of 4.04 meters and a total length of six meters. The width is 2.05 meters. The standard pop-up roof screws the height (closed) to 2.65 meters. In contrast to the two-seater Classic, the Biker Solution Multi is approved as a four-seater. The Multi offers a cabinet system with two padded helmet compartments, a long cabinet for motorcycle suits and a tailor-made compartment for motorcycle boots. Additional luggage can be stored in additional overhead cabinets and above the driver’s cab.

The Citroën Jumper Biker Solution Multi offers up to four beds thanks to the beds (60/40) that can be folded down to the side in the cabin and the pop-up roof including telescopic ladder, slatted frame and mattress. The Thule awning, the kitchen block with compressor refrigerator, fresh and waste water tanks (20 liters each) and removable single-burner gas stove, the motorcycle ramps, the self-sufficient system with maintenance-free battery and external power connection as well as numerous detailed solutions ensure the recreational value.
Space for up to two motorcycles
In contrast to the Classic with its high-build, attached rail system, the Multi uses longitudinally aligned and crash-tested lashing rails integrated into the floor for motorcycle transport tasks. With two ramps, each around 30 centimeters wide, motorcycles, quads or other rollable goods can be easily loaded. If necessary, an electric cable winch with remote control installed under the driver’s cab provides support. In the vehicle, the motorcycles are then fixed on freely positionable front wheel rockers and tensioned with straps on the vehicle’s own lashing points or hooked into the rail system. With cleverly coordinated dimensions, two bikes can be accommodated. Larger sized bikes have to travel alone.

However, if you use the level cargo space for motorcycle transport, you have to forego at least one of the two optional additional seats. They can only be placed in the rail system if the cargo space is free. Practical: The solid aluminum loading ramps can be stowed in compartments on the side walls on the left and right.
From the seating area to the van
Thanks to the rail system integrated into the floor, the flat loading space can also be used as living space. A small seating area can be set up here with the table element and a folded-down bed part. If the additional single seats are also on board, they can also be integrated.

As a further option, all furniture in the Multi, as in the Classic, can be expanded. The kitchen block is screwed to the floor, all cabinets and bed elements are only hung on a rail system with a quick-release fastener. With a little practice, two people can clear the job in just under 30 minutes. Then the jumper can be used as a conventional transporter. Incidentally, the payload with full furniture is around 800 kilograms.
One color, one engine, one price
The standard equipment of the base vehicle includes a color navigation system, an audio system with digital radio reception DAB and CD / MP3 player, touchscreen, steering wheel remote control and Bluetooth as well as a video parking system with acoustic rear parking aid. The hill descent assistant, hill start assistant and intelligent traction control ensure additional safety. The only engine available is a 165 hp 2.2-liter turbo diesel, which is combined with a manual six-speed gearbox and front-wheel drive. The diesel engine is classified according to the new Euro 6d-Temp emissions standard for commercial vehicles.
The only available color variant for the Biker Solution models is the metallic paintwork in aluminum gray on the outside and the decor design in carbon look on the inside. Now series, but not yet shown in the pictures, are darkened windows integrated into the rear doors. The new Citroën Biker Solution models can be ordered immediately. The first models will be delivered from November 2019. The basic price for both versions is 51,100 euros (plus taxes). There is no surcharge list. In the first year, Citroën was able to sell around 60 Classic Version Biker Solutions. With the doubled offer, the manufacturer expects 120 to 150 units per year. The Citroën Biker Solution models can be approved as special motorhomes or commercial vehicles.

In general, things are tight in the Biker Solution. For people and motorcycles. The storage compartments for the drive-on ramps, which are mounted on the left and right of the folding bed underside, reduce the loading width compared to the version Classic to just under 1.40 meters. If two bikes are to be taken on the trip, they have to be cleverly combined with one another. Two large enduro bikes don’t work, but two slim naked bikes can. But they also have to snuggle up close together in the multi.
Loading is child’s play with the wide ramps, but entering the front wheel rocker is tricky. Since they cannot be fixed to the floor, they tend to slip instead of snapping shut. If both machines are at a standstill, missing lashing points in the area between the motorcycles cause headaches. Variable slot nuts with eyes for the lashing rails are not included in the Citroën repertoire. All that remains is to clamp the machines on the outside at the existing eyelets and in the middle against each other. A solution that MOTORRAD does not recommend. The bottom line is that the Multi unfortunately only qualifies for one-bike transport.
Drives easily and quickly
But we not only loaded and unloaded, we also drove. The Biker Solution drives like a car, but the dimensions require some getting used to, as is usual with this vehicle class. The view, which is restricted by the low windshield, is not very helpful. Narrow country roads are becoming even narrower, tight curves need to be taken more generously if the rear axle is not supposed to plow through the green or over sidewalk edges. With the 165 hp diesel engine you are sufficiently motorized. Overland you can easily swim with the traffic, on the motorway traveling speeds of 140 km / h are no problem, the noise level remains within tolerable limits. The diesel also takes most of the inclines with the power of torque and without changing gears. What is missing is an inside mirror to monitor the cargo.
Conclusion
The combination of motorhome and motorcycle transporter is a good idea, but the Citroën Biker Solution has weaknesses in terms of both living and motorcycle transport. However, if you plan on spending a night or two on your way to your holiday home, who are into high travel averages and don’t want to drag the motorcycles around on the trailer, you will enjoy the Biker Solution.
