EICMA 2020 officially canceled: Autumn fair is canceled this year
EICMA 2020 officially canceled
Autumn fair is canceled this year
After INTERMOT in Cologne, EICMA in Milan is now over: The trade fair planned for November will not take place in 2020.

For a long time, the Italians hesitated to cancel because they would have loved to send a strong signal in the crisis year of the corona pandemic: for the entire two-wheeler industry and also for the Lombardy region and its metropolis of Milan, which was particularly badly affected by the virus. But now they decided to cancel: The EICMA, which is held annually in November and is considered the world’s most important motorcycle fair, cannot take place in 2020.
The fair was already fully booked
According to Paolo Magri, head of the Italian Association of the Two-Wheeler Industry ANCMA, the decision was made “in coordination with and for the good of the entire industry” please. One could have counted on a further decrease in infections and a general improvement in the situation in connection with Covid-19, but “in the interest of visitors and exhibitors” all those involved – EICMA, ANCMA and with them the manufacturers and importers – would have voted for a postponement to next year.
According to reports, the organizers had previously even considered renting more exhibition halls than usual in order to ensure a more relaxed distribution of exhibitors and visitors. But even with that, it would have been almost impossible to comply with the current hygiene and above all distance regulations in view of the usually huge rush to the exhibition halls. Last year, EICMA, also known as the Milan Salon, reported records. According to the organizers, almost 800,000 visitors flocked to the fair on the two trade visitor and four public days. 1,187 brands exhibited their products in eight halls. Almost two thirds of them came from abroad; a total of manufacturers from 43 countries were represented at EICMA 2019. For this year, too, the fair was apparently fully booked in February.
Digital presentations as a substitute?
The organizers have not yet announced whether EICMA will instead distribute digital content on the actually planned date between November 3 and 8, 2020 and, for example, present world premieres of new motorcycles on its own Internet channel. The time and place for EICMA 2021 have already been determined: from November 9th to 14th, 2021, as always at the exhibition center in Rho, a suburb in the north of Milan.
Conclusion
The fact that EICMA has to be canceled this year due to the Corona crisis should come as a surprise to only a few. The second major autumn fair, INTERMOT, had already been officially canceled beforehand.
