Harley-Davidson Street Bob 114 (2021)
Bob gets the fat twin

For 2021, Harley-Davidson will change very little to the existing model range and that may be correct in the current situation of the company. The most interesting change, however, is the upgrade of the Street Bob to a good 1.9 liter displacement.

There are certainly situations on a Harley in which 1,746 cubic meters, 145 Nm and 86 hp are not enough. And these situations seem to be increasing, because what else could be a reason for the new Street Bob with the 114 cubic-inch twin with a whopping 1,868 cubic centimeters, 95 hp and 155 Nm? Regardless, displacement is always good and definitely gets a like. And with a view to the other H-D models in 2021, the days of the 107 engine seem to be numbered. On the chassis side, the Street Bob 114 corresponds to its predecessor on paper Street Bob 107, but differs in the new footrests and the pillion seat, which makes the 114er Bob a two-seater as standard.

More strength, more juice, hardly more money

The bob with the large engine has not gained a gram. It stays loud Harley-Davidson At 297 kilograms ready to drive, only the price has increased: nominally, it is 1,000 euros more, which now has to be paid for the 114er bobsleigh with at least 15,495 euros. Compared to the Softail Standard, which now costs € 14,395 also € 1,000 more, but keeps the small engine, the 114 is a bargain.

With the upgrade of the Street Bob 114, H-D is completely re-positioning the model in terms of price. Although further in the “cheap” Category between the Softail standard and Softtail Slim, which both keep the 107 engine. In terms of price, the three differ only 1,100 euros below the standard – small change in Harley-Land – and a noticeable 3,700 euros more than the Slim. The conclusion is that the 107 engine will not remain the smallest big twin and will be discontinued in the medium term. That would be with a view to the current one 117 CVO engine Make sense, because it will definitely be drilled out to at least 120 ci and the 117 will be passed down. Something that Harley-Davidson does from time to time and connoisseurs will of course notice: The Lowrider is also no longer listed, in 2020 the price was still between the Street Bob and the Slim.

The differences in displacement between the two engines are achieved through different strokes and bores. The 107 engine has a 100 millimeter bore, 111 millimeter stroke and has a compression ratio of 10: 1. The 114 twin has a piston bore of 102 millimeters, a cylinder stroke of 114 millimeters and a compression ratio of 10.5: 1. Something for the regulars’ table: The number of inch cubic inches multiplied by 16.38 results in the metric cubic centimeters. This of course also applies to Indian and V8 car engines.

More colors, more money

Another indication of the repositioning is the Street Bob’s new color palette. With four colors there is less choice than before, but the days of muted colors are over, even the basecoat (Vivid Black) has a strong graphic on the tank. The 350 euro surcharge paint variants Stone Washed White Pearl, Baja Orange and Deadwood Green clearly set one on top in terms of the conspicuity factor, especially in comparison with the other, more muted color variants of all other Softails for 2021.

Conclusion

Harley 2021. So far there are no real innovations on known technology, but the company’s tough restructuring course is perhaps the last possible and must be followed consistently. Upgrading the Street Bob to the 114 twin can be another sign of slimming down. And the coming one Pan America is one for real departure. Both good.
