Harley-Davidson has announced a financial stake in the Californian electric motorcycle manufacturer Alta Motors. The US group is apparently getting technical know-how from an expanding company in order to bring its “LiveWire” project, which was presented in 2014, to series production readiness.

the Harley-Davidson “LiveWire” will be the US market leader’s first electric powered motorcycle. At the end of January, Harley boss Matt Levatich announced that the Harley-Davidson “LiveWire” would be launched by the second half of 2019.

In a statement on the financial and strategic cooperation with Alta Motors that has now become known, Harley boss Levatich said that Harley-Davidson wanted to become the world market leader among manufacturers of electrically powered motorcycles: “We believe that electric vehicles represent the mobility of the future,” said Levatich. Together with Alta Motors, Harley-Davidson wants to address new customers who are enthusiastic about the ease of “turning the handle and driving off”. Electric motorcycles without clutch or gearshift could offer this ease.
