A new addition to the Held range is an airbag vest that can be combined with all suitably prepared jackets from the Held range using the clip-in system. The new, from the French supplier In&Airbag vest developed by Motion is offered in parallel to the existing systems of the Helite provider. The biggest difference to the Helite models is the smart technology of the In&Motion airbags that do without a pull cord to trigger it. An integrated processor controls this triggering process via acceleration sensors in combination with a corresponding algorithm as soon as defined limit values ββare exceeded and a fall is suspected. This should enable the new airbag system to deploy much earlier and much faster (60 ms), thereby significantly improving protection.

The In&Motion airbag system in cooperation with numerous racing drivers from MotoGP, Moto2 and Moto3 as well as professional ski racers and riders, who can also benefit from this safety technology, explains In&Motion co-founder Pierre-Francois Tissot. In 2014 the company started with airbag systems for skiers, in 2016 it entered the MotoGP as one of three approved system providers. The entry into the motorcycle market took place in 2018, initially with the French clothing brand Ixon, and the French want to join in 2019 hero Take off really big.

The Held airbag vest is available in five sizes, each with a matching airbag module. Integrated into the vest is a level 1 back protector with a plastic cover, which accommodates the control module and the inflator. The protective airbag extends over two strands in front of the chest and on the back as well as over the shoulder areas and the neck. Once triggered, the airbag holds its filling for a long time in order to also absorb second blows. The entire vest weighs just under 1,500 grams and can be worn invisibly under the jacket. A first test drive also shows that the vest remains inconspicuous when it comes to wearing comfort. The airbag system is rounded off by an app that allows updates and configuration changes.
Updates possible at any time free of charge
The control module equipped with various sensors offers an operating time of around 20 hours. If the vest is not used, the control system detects the inactivity and switches to sleep mode. During operation, the control system collects data relevant to driving dynamics, even in the event of an accident with the airbag being deployed. This data can be sent anonymously to In&Motion can be passed on in order to further optimize the triggering algorithm. The data is passed on voluntarily. Updates of the improved algorithm are always available for everyone. The operating conditions can also be adjusted via the app. The algorithm is optimized for road use as standard, but a racetrack mode can also be set as an option. Communication between the control module and the app takes place via Bluetooth.

If the airbag has triggered, the customer can use an adapter for the valve to test the tightness of the airbag with a conventional compressed air source. The inflator can easily be exchanged by the customer. It is only screwed in. A “refill” costs 90 euros. The vest must only be sent in if the test results are doubtful or if there is obvious damage.
Rent or buy a control module
That brings us to the price. The pure clip-in hero airbag vest costs 349.95 euros. The necessary control module is extra. Two options are offered here. The customer can buy the control module for 399 euros, or he can opt for a subscription model. Monthly rates of 12 euros or an annual fee of 120 euros are charged. The subscription model can be canceled at any time and includes a lifelong guarantee (if purchased: 2 years). Subscription customers are also entitled to the latest generation of control modules free of charge after three years. Either way, the customer must first activate his control module via the app with a personalized account. From this point on, the vest can be used without restriction for 48 hours, only then does the customer have to decide whether to purchase a module or a subscription model. In&Motion explains that so far 90% of all buyers have opted for the subscription model.
