The Honda CMX 500 Rebel is the means of choice in numerous driving schools when it comes to helping learner drivers get the coveted license. Easy to handle and equipped with an extremely low seat height, virtually everyone can handle it. Now Honda has upscaled the Rebel concept.
Adapted Africa Twin engine
Honda
It remains with the in-line two-cylinder, the deep-drawn steel frame and the familiar look. The twin in the CMX 1100 Rebel comes from the Africa Twin and offers 1,084 cm³ displacement. With a significantly increased flywheel mass and further adjustments, it offers more torque and a calmer character. The peak performance sank to 87 hp at 7,000 tours, the maximum torque of 98 Nm is already at 4,750 rpm. It is shifted by a six-speed gearbox. As in the Africa Twin, the two-cylinder in the Rebel can also be coupled with the DCT dual clutch transmission. The driver can choose from three preset driving modes, and he can configure a fourth himself.
Well-known Rebel layout
The tubular steel chassis of the CMX 1100 Rebel follows the layout of its little sister. The seat height is only 700 millimeters. Underneath there is a three-liter storage compartment with a USB socket. The pillion seat is easy to remove. The tank holds 13.6 liters. A 43 mm telescopic fork leads at the front, while the Rebel uses stereo struts at the rear. Only the preload can be adjusted in each case. Honda clamps a 130/70 tire on the front 18-inch rim and flanges a 330 disc with four-piston pliers. At the back there is a 16-inch wheel with a 180/65 tire. Stop power is provided by a single-piston brake calliper with a 256 mm disc. With a full tank, the Rebel weighs 223 kilograms, with DCT it’s ten kilograms more.
The lighting is all about LED technology. A cruise control, like a wheelie control, is part of the standard equipment. An LC display in a round housing provides information in the cockpit.
The Rebel 1100 will be available from 2021 in the colors Bordeaux Red Metallic and Gunmetal Black Metallic. Honda cites 10,016 euros (16% VAT) plus additional costs as the base price. Equipped with DCT, the Rebel costs from 10,991 euros (16% VAT). In addition, Honda offers a wide range of accessories with which the CMX 1100 can be further customized.
