Dirt in the tank

Honda has to recall Africa Twins worldwide. Production residues could have remained in the tanks, which could interfere with the fuel supply.

When the tank halves are welded together, the tank may be contaminated during the production process. Zinc oxide particles can clog the fuel filter in the tank and thus impair or even completely prevent the fuel supply. As a result, the engine can die. The tanks on all affected vehicles are now being dismantled and cleaned in the workshops.

Production period November 2017 – October 2020

Affected in Europe are Africa Twin models of the type CRF 1000 L and CRF 1100 L of the production period from November 29, 2017 to October 19, 2020. The European recall came from Portugal in January 2021.

Recall of 2,690 Africa Twins in the US

In the USA, 2,690 Honda Africa Twin machines were recalled to the workshops in December last year and at that time it could be assumed that there would also be a recall in Europe for the above-mentioned reason. The American traffic safety authority NHTSA announced in December that it was about the Honda Africa Twin models of the type CRF 1000 L from the construction period March 2018 to March 2019 and machines of the type CRF 1100 L from the construction period August 2019 to May 2020.

How do you feel about recall?

It’s annoying, but ultimately I benefit from it as a customer.

I feel insecure and I lose confidence in the technology / the manufacturer.
