There is seldom the opportunity to experience the drivers and their racing motorcycles so closely in a series as at the IDM. With the open paddock and the autograph sessions of the IDM drivers, it is a guarantee for an eventful fan weekend. From August 9th to 11th, 2019, the IDM will return to the Most racetrack after twelve years of abstinence. The Czech Autodrom in Northern Bohemia is conveniently located in Central Europe and can be reached quickly from Germany, Austria and Poland. The modernized racetrack can be driven quickly and smoothly. Most recently, 75 percent were re-asphalted.

It has been a long time since the IDM last made a guest appearance in Most (German: Brux). The IDM superbiker Christer Lindholm from Sweden once set the lap record on the old route. Can a superbiker also set a new record when the IDM makes a comeback? Who completes the nine left and twelve right turns the fastest??

IDM Superbike 1000

The IDM is already in the second half of the season. Before their appearance in Northern Bohemia, the fight for the title in the IDM Superbike 1000 has come to a head again. The decision will be made between two drivers who are also teammates: Julian Puffe and Ilya Mikhalchik. The two BMW drivers are only separated by nine championship points. The German has an advantage, but despite two failures due to technical defects, the Ukrainian never lost touch and kept catching up. If Mikhalchik wins two races in Most, he would take over from Puffe at the top and move closer to his mission to defend his title. But his 23-year-old competitor from the racing city of Schleiz doesn’t want to let it get that far.

While the German-Ukrainian duo is currently making the decision at the top of the table among themselves, the IDM premier class is also looking at the following places. The French endurance world champion Erwan Nigon (Kawasaki) has 110 points, the Dutch Pepijn Bijsterbosch (BMW) has 106 points and the Italian Alessandro Polita (Honda) has 99 points in the intermediate ranking of the particularly spectacular IDM Championship.

The IDM Superbike 1000 is about brand prestige. The sophisticated motorcycles with 1000 cm³ displacement have well over 200 HP and are over 300 km / h fast. Five manufacturers participate in Germany’s highest class in road racing: BMW, Honda, Kawasaki, Suzuki and Yamaha. Each brand currently has at least one driver in the top ten overall.

IDM Supersport 600

For Max Enderlein and Stefan Strohlein, the situation is far more relaxed. They have such a big lead over their pursuers in the 600 cc class that they could afford to retire without losing the lead in their respective standings. Enderlein is the defending champion in the IDM Supersport 600 and Strohlein leads the DMSB Superstock 600-Cup, in which not so much can be changed on the motorcycles. Both categories drive in the same field, but are rated separately.

Behind the top riders there is plenty of movement in the top ten. Each race can result in a change of position in the overall standings. It is interesting to see how the two Kawasaki riders Gabriel Noderer and Christoph Beinlich fare within the mighty Yamaha armada. Luca Grunwald recently showed what is possible on the Schleizer Dreieck. The long-injured Bavarian won a run in the IDM Supersport 600 on Kawasaki. However, due to his involuntary injury break, he can no longer fight for the title.

IDM Supersport 300

The IDM Supersport 300 fights for every single point and every single centimeter. The junior class has emerged as the secret star of the IDM weekends when it comes to duels and dramatic finishings. With Angelo Licciardi, a Belgian leads the ranking, followed by the Dutchman Rick Dunnik, only four points behind.

The best German is Troy Beinlich in fifth place. Defending champion Toni Erhard is listed as seventh overall. If the 18-year-old Saxon wants to keep his chances, he has to win now. In Most, Erhard’s path leads to the winning route through the highly motivated local hero David Kuban. The 17-year-old KTM rider from Brno is coming to the race in his home country with the tailwind of his race win in Schleiz. Kuban, second in the ADAC Junior Cup last year, is one of the extended group of championship candidates in the IDM Supersport 300.

IDM sidecar

Almost all of the world’s elite take to the starting line in the IDM Sidecar, led by seven-time world champion Tim Reeves and his co-driver Mark Wilkes. He has won every race in the up to 600cc class so far. Behind him are well-known competitors such as Bennie Streuer / Kevin Rousseau and the German duo Josef Sattler / Uwe Neubert.

In the IDM, however, the class up to 1000 ccm is still adhered to. Can the Saxon native Mike Roscher and Anna Burkard in the boat in Most ensure a change at the top of the table? He is only six points behind Andres Nussbaum / Manuel Hirschi from Switzerland. The sidecars traditionally enjoy cult status in the East. Two wins would be the main prize for Roscher.

Framework program and cups

The spectators expect great days in Most. The ADAC Junior Cup, the BMW Motorrad BoxerCup as well as the Suzuki GSX-R 1000-Cup and the Twin Cup give the event an additional flavor. Admission is free on Friday. A Saturday ticket costs 19.00 euros and the Sunday ticket 25.00 euros, including a visit to the paddock. The combination ticket for the whole weekend is available for 35.00 euros. Admission is free for young people up to and including 17 years of age.
