IDM run in Most
Record and leadership change

After twelve years, the International German Motorcycle Championship (IDM) returned to Most at the weekend under the direction of Motor Presse Stuttgart. The comeback of Germany’s highest motorcycle series in road racing was celebrated by 3,000 spectators. Spectacular overtaking maneuvers, changes in the overall standings, a new track record and the first announcements for 2020 offered fans first-class entertainment.

In the IDM Superbike 1000 there was a change at the top of the table. Ilya Mikhalchik (alpha Racing-Van Zon-BMW) won both races. After the first run, he took the lead in the championship from his teammate Julian Puffe. At the same time, the 22-year-old Ukrainian set a new course record at the Autodrom Most with 1: 35.430 minutes. The time corresponds to an average speed of 157.139 km / h.

Puff without points

Since Puffe crashed in both races, he left important championship points on the track in Northern Bohemia. Defending champion Mikhalchik has broken the 23-year-old from the racing city Schleiz by 41 points after nine races.

The new front runner in the IDM premier class was followed in the first run by Marc Moser (MGM Performance Racing, Yamaha) and Alessandro Polita (Holzhauer Racing Promotion, Honda) from Italy. This meant that three riders from three different countries stood on three motorcycle brands on the podium. In this combination it was an IDM premiere. Polita has brought the only Honda in the field so far forward for the first time.

In the second race, which is started this season according to the reverse grid system, Mikhalchik, who had to start from ninth place as the winner of race one, won ahead of Pepijn Bijsterbosch (Dutch Comfort Houses, BMW). The Dutchman had seized the opportunity and converted his pole position into second place. Polita was third up to the last corner, but then Moser started the decisive attack behind it and snatched the podium place away from the Italian by a hair’s breadth. The two were separated by a target of 0.013 seconds. Kawasaki driver Erwan Nigon (Kawasaki Weber-Motos Racing Team) had to give up in Most. The newly crowned endurance world champion fell in the first race. In the second he was sixth. Toni Finsterbusch (Suzuki Mayer) got the coals out of the fire with two seventh places for Suzuki.

Double victory for Enderlein in the 600s

Max Enderlein achieved a flawless double victory in the IDM Supersport 600. The podium was occupied equally after both races and was firmly in Yamaha hands. Enderlein (Freudenberg WorldSSP Team) stood between second placed Marc Buchner (Buchner Motorsport) and third Martin Vugrinec (UNIOR Racing Team).

Enderlein has come a step closer to his goal of defending his title. In theory, he could already be the new champion at the next race in Assen on the second weekend in September. However, “Spider” Martin Vugrinec caused the real sensation in the 600 cc class in the first run. In the first lap he had advanced from 18th place on the grid to fourth place. The Croatian set a pace that his opponents missed hearing and seeing. In the very last lap he also grabbed Tom Toparis and made the jump onto the podium, onto which he crawled like a spider. The Croat also displaced the Australian from second place in the championship.

Guest driver Steeman is minding both races

In the junior class IDM Supersport 300 there was the usual scramble. Only Victor Steeman (KTM), guest driver from the world championship, stayed out of it all and won both races. As a guest driver, however, he didn’t get any points. Behind him in the first run a six-pack got entangled with Angelo Licciardi (Kawasaki), Rick Dunnik (Yamaha), Walid Khan (Kawasaki), David Kuban (KTM), Toni Erhard (KTM), Melvin van der Voort (Yamaha) and Ruben Bijman (Yamaha) with each other in various duels with constant changes of position. The last lap was tough again. Local hero Kuban stumbled and fell. Walid Khan, who started from eighth place, was suddenly waved off in second place. The Dutchman received the full 25 championship points in his first IDM race. Angelo Licciardi was third to see the black and white checkered flag. Toni Erhard (KTM) had to be content with sixth place. He was the best German in the field. There were four points for a lady: Nina Schubrikoff on a Yamaha.

Erhard got the full number of points in the second run. However, the 18-year-old has to get rid of his title defense. He will not reach the top in the remaining six races. “For me, only individual results count now, but the win is really good for me,” says the Schwarzenberger, whose first half of the season was very mixed. Championship leader Angelo Licciardi was next to receive another 20 points. The Belgian Kawasaki driver thus extended his lead over Dunnik, Colin Velthuizen (Kawasaki) and Kuban. The fight for places behind Licciardi is completely open. Ruben Bijman (Yamaha) and Troy Beinlich are also there.

Exciting sidecar classes

In the IDM Sidecar, there is no way around the seven-time world champion Tim Reeves and his co-driver Mark Wilkes (Adolf RS F1 Yamaha) in the 600 cc classification. In both races, the British superstars were followed by the Germans Josef Sattler / Uwe Neubert (Adolf RS F1 Kawasaki) and the Swiss Jakob Rutz with the German Bjorn Bosch (LCR F1 Yamaha) in the boat. There are already interesting plans for 2020. The travel company Bonovo Express will not only sponsor Reeves / Wilkes but also Sattler / Neubert next year. “We want to form a cooperation with both teams in the IDM and in the world championship. In addition, we will bring a rookie team on board or support teams with wild cards, ”explains boss Jurgen Roder.

In the IDM sidecar classification up to 1,000 ccm there is a new lead in the overall classification with Mike Roscher / Anna Burkard (LCR F1 BMW). The German-Swiss combination has already achieved six wins, five of them in a row. Scott Lawrie / Emanuelle Clement (LCR F1 Suzuki) also made it onto the podium twice. Andres Nussbaum / Manuel Hirschi (LCR F1 Suzuki) only once. The Swiss had led the overall ranking up to Most.

The sidecar qualifying and the first race were overshadowed by serious accidents. The French duo Michael Ouger / Sebastien Seret had an accident on Friday. It’s in the hospital. The state of health is stable. Helmut Lingen / Carolin Zimmermann, who had an accident on Saturday, were released home.
