and the winner is…”, the historical opening words of the Oscar awards fit perfectly with the resume of this year’s Intermot. Whoever is named after this announcement can be happy, he did everything right and put on a great show. Those who were also nominated, but still
came away empty-handed, can also be proud, they were at the forefront. And if you have nothing great new to offer, you just have to live with the fact that no trophy will come out for you. But at least he stays in the conversation. The only thing worse is not being there, which actually only applied to MV Agusta among the well-known brands. Enough of the preface, we come to the award ceremony. And the winner is…
The whole motorcycle is the first completely new design since it was launched-
tion of the ZX-10R 2004, no stone was left
obviously on the other, and the extensive changes affect both the chassis, the engine, the electronics and, that was the big topic at the Kawa stand in Cologne, quite obviously-
And the styling too. Got as the backbone
the bike has a new aluminum bridge frame. This also resulted in minor changes to the geometry. The big piston fork is new to the chassis. At the rear, the 10 Series now has a horizontally positioned shock absorber, which the designers expect more traction and better feedback.
Overall, the 1000 without ABS is ten kilograms lighter than its direct predecessor. The ABS states that Kawa is three kilograms more weight. The cost point for the new flagship in terms of green racers: around 15,500 euros plus 1,000 euros for the ABS.
For sports fans with a penchant for wagging country roads, but also like being cozy and with a pillion passenger, Kawa has from the
Z 1000 made a power bike with full fairing and named it Z 1000 SX. How the SX drives, which should cost just under 12,600 euros, we can already illuminate in the next PS.
For lovers of mid-range naked bikes who are also enthusiastic about sports Kawasaki pimped up the old friend Z 750 and provided it with a better chassis and an R in the name. With ABS, it should cost just under 9,000 euros. A cruiser and the W 800 retro bike rounded off the green innovations at Intermot.
With regard to the athletes, Suzuki followed the usual parameters and initially made the bikes significantly lighter. They achieved this primarily with the newly designed chassis. As a result, and a new tilt angle for the engine, the wheelbase shrank by 15 millimeters. The pounds fell on both the frame and the swingarm. The same applies to the chassis and the exhaust system. In total, the 600 series weighs nine kilograms less and the 750 series eight kilograms less. There is now a Big Piston fork from Showa in both fronts and they all have up instead of the-
Her usual Nissin is a radially mounted Brembo brake. Little has happened on the engine side. There were minimal changes to the radiator, and the forged pistons and intake valves became lighter.
For Suzuki, the GSR 750 is supposed to be the upwardly shifted field of mid-range Nakeds, i.e. beyond the GSR 600,
order. With the
older 750 engine still in the Re-
gal actually a long overdue move. Suzuki was not yet able to announce prices for its innovations at the fair.
For real race fans there was the premiere of the production racer RC8 R-Track, the
we were also able to drive (see page 4). KTM’s third new presentation was limited to the ABS for the large Supermoto 990 SMT.
Of the smaller changes in the Monster models, the most significant concerns the 796, which got a redesigned rear end and whose previous one, on which the passenger grab bars can be retrofitted, is being moved to the 696.
Not to Aprilia, but to the same group, namely Piaggio, Moto Guzzi, the one and only “new” Motorcycle showed. The makers from Mandello formed the V7 Racer from the 750 V2 engine. A somewhat grandiose name, with only 50 hp. Owing to the thought of the time when Guzzi still won races. The motorcycle is made for around 9300 euros with milled footrests and a chrome-plated tank and exhaust system.
With that the curtain almost falls, the tour of the fair ends. But what the animators and foreign productions are at the Oscars, those are the conversions of the tuners for the Intermot.
Those who walked through the fair with a watchful eye could find very special pieces at one or the other side show-
cover the origin of which one often had to think a little more carefully – the most beautiful actors at such a fair. For example the S 1000 RR as a naked bike, as shown by the BMW accessories specialist Wunderlich. Perhaps a hint to Munich as to what is still feasible with the brutal four-cylinder superbike. There was also naked with the SD8
an RC8 conversion from Triplespeed on the Continental booth, which maybe also the fan in Mattighofen-
stimulates imagination. The took advantage LSL in connection with Kawasaki’s new retro motorcycle W 800 to build a wonderful tracker.
So Cologne was once again worth the trip, with the prospect that there will be many exciting motorcycles again in 2011 and that we will all be well entertained. Even if a few big manufacturers don’t play in the film this time
become. Now we are at the latest after the Eicma with the stripe “2011” the big cinema into the house.
