But things should go better with the 2008 facelift. It does that below 3000 rpm, ten Newton meters more torque. However, in the middle speed range at a good 6000 rpm, five Newton meters less than before press. Nevertheless, the type D equipped with G-Kat is the better choice, even if the Kawasaki ZZR 1400 was able to shine with formidable ABS brakes and great chassis. The performance boost in higher speed regions was unbeatable even in the first series. Traction control was added in 2012, and the Kawasaki cracked the 200 hp mark. The arms race – especially with Suzuki’s Hayabusa – also means that the “weaker” predecessors can be squandered relatively cheaply. Please note: top performance is a criterion, but durability and touring suitability are perhaps the more important ones that make up the top value.

A incomplete service booklet is manageable if only the safety check (clutch, brakes) is missing every 6000 kilometers, because every 12,000 there is an inspection with an oil change, etc., anyway. Nevertheless, it makes sense that professionals regularly check the wheels and chain in view of the often high loads. Every 42,000 kilometers (adjust valves), inspection costs can be well over 600 euros. If new tires arrive at the same time (about every 3000 kilometers rear tires, from 150 euros), many take this as an opportunity to sell the Kawasaki ZZR 1400. So: check follow-up costs beforehand! Overall, apart from maintenance work, there are hardly any expensive repairs. Popular with speed freaks, but illegal: a special Dynajet kit to fool the engine management into thinking that it is in fifth gear (full power only there). During the test drive, you can see that right away from the fact that gear five is permanently displayed in the cockpit display.
Market situation
A few Kawasaki ZZR 1400s are offered for as little as 4500 euros. However, partially without ABS (mostly used EU imports and vehicles from the first year of construction 2006). But for 5000 euros you can reliably get a bargain. Mileage of over 50,000 kilometers should not be a deterrent with only one or two previous owners and overall good condition, because the equivalent value is still right. The technically somewhat refreshed models from 2008 onwards have a mileage of around 25,000 kilometers at around 6500 euros. However, they are relatively rare on the market because the stock is very small. The 2010 model, for example, was only sold 38 times (!). For a modern but used Type F (from 2012) interested parties hardly invest more than 10,000 euros, because new EU imports and previous year’s demonstrators are already being offered for 12,500 euros and daily registrations with odometer reading zero are available from 13,500 euros.
