Rossi thinks about the end of his career, Miller about Ducati

Although the 2020 MotoGP season has not even started, the driver carousel is already turning for 2021. Jack Miller will be given a cockpit with the Ducati factory team. And: Valentino Rossi is retiring?

The Corona crisis and the associated curfew could help the probably most legendary MotoGP rider of all time to end his career after this season. Don’t worry, not for health reasons. We are of course talking about none other than Valentino Rossi, who at the beginning of the year was even more cautious about a potential end of his career and at the time could well imagine remaining with Yamaha for one or two seasons after his contract ended. After the break and, according to his personal statement, a nice time in his home country in the presence of his family, a rethink could have taken place.

VR46 enjoys racing-free time a lot

Valentino Rossi was extremely positive about the race-free time during the Corona crisis. Accordingly, VR46 enjoyed the time in his house, with his mother, his girlfriend and his animals. At first, however, it was a bit strange, because the Italian has been spending his life on the world’s race tracks since 1995. After a short time, Rossi learned to love the time at home, without the constant pressure that the races and the pressure of results bring with them. “That’s a good feeling”, so Rossi.

Valentino Rossi will retire after the 2020 season?

Rossi further explains: “I was able to experience what my future life will be like when I no longer compete in MotoGP and I think that I can enjoy my life even after my career has ended. I can now make a decision more easily.” Finally, VR46 confirms that the lockdown will have a major impact on his decision and that he would like to decide on his future in the coming weeks. Although no official end of career has been announced by the doctor, a clear denial also sounds different.

Jack Miller gets Ducati cockpit

Whether it will continue for Valentino Rossi is still open. However, it looks different with Jack Miller. As Ducati has confirmed, the Australian will get a cockpit with the works team. Miller receives a one-year contract and will most likely become Andrea Dovizioso’s teammate in the 2021 season. Although Dovizioso’s contract expires after this season, industry experts are relatively certain that the Italian will extend Ducati. Should it come to that, Danilo Petrucci would have to look for a new employer. Even Petrucci’s manager, Alberto Vergani, does not believe in a contract extension for his protege at Ducati. In his opinion, it is 99 percent certain that Dovizioso will extend Ducati, Vergani told various media representatives.

Jack Miller will replace Danilo Petrucci in the 2021 season.

The course for the future has already been set for other teams as well. What is certain is that Maverick Vinales will have a new team-mate at Yamaha in the form of Fabio Quartararo from 2021. World Champion Marc Marquez’s contract with Honda is valid until 2024. Alex Marquez, reigning Moto2 champion and Marc’s younger brother, will be given the second cockpit at Repsol Honda. Alex Rins and Joan Mir are tied to Suzuki until 2022. Avintia Ducati caused a sensation. The team has separated from Karel Abraham, who actually still had a valid contract and provided Johann Zarco with a one-year contract. In addition to Zarco, Tito Rabat will start for Avintia. His working paper ends after the 2021 season.

Lorenzo wants to go to Barcelona despite the end of his career start

KTM works driver Pol Espargaro welcomes a new team-mate by his side: Brad Binder, who clinched five victories in Moto2 last season, will be given the second cockpit for the Austrians. There is also a driver change in the KTM Tech 3 pilot team: Iker Lecuona will be given the second cockpit alongside Miguel Oliveira. For Hafizh Syahrin there is no longer a cockpit. Jack Miller and Francesco Bagnaia should continue to compete for Alma Pramac Racing. Both have contracts until the end of the 2020 season. Franco Morbidelli and shooting star Fabio Quartararo will compete for Petronas Yamaha again in 2020.

Some of the current MotoGP riders have not found a MotoGP team for the coming season or have simply ended their careers. The most prominent example is likely to be Honda driver and ex-world champion Jorge Lorenzo, who officially ended his career after the last race in Valencia in 2019. However, the Spaniard decided to act as a test driver for Yamaha. In addition, Lorenzo surprisingly confirmed before the start of the season that he would start the race in Barcelona with a wildcard. The Catalan GP was scheduled for June 7th and is now set for September 27th, while Takaaki Nakagami will stay at LCR Honda after recovering from an injury break. The second cockpit at LCR is currently owned by Cal Crutchlow.
