Which motorcycles were particularly popular with women in 2017? The top 20 new registrations of motorcycles among female private individuals provides a great starting point.

This is one of the rare motorcycle registration statistics in which the BMW R 1200 GS does not play first fiddle. Not even the second. But at least the third – when it comes to the absolute numbers, i.e. how many motorcycles of the respective model were registered for women. In 2017 there were 382 copies of the R 1200 GS.

When it comes to the percentage of women, the big GS is in last place in the top 20: 6.18 percent are exactly. Because naturally the somewhat narrow and slightly lower motorcycles are very popular with women.

Ranking according to absolute numbers

Leading the way is the Yamaha MT-07 (2nd place in total private registrations), closely followed by the Kawasaki Z 650 (3rd place in total private registrations) – both with over 700 new registrations for women in 2017. In third place was the BMW R 1200 GS (first place in the overall private registrations), but with not even half as many registrations as the MT-07.

The top 10 complete the Honda CB 500 F (10th place in the overall private registrations), KTM 690 Duke (6th place), Suzuki SV 650 (14th place), BMW F 700 GS (25th place), Kawasaki Z 900 (5th place), KTM 390 Duke (17th place) and Honda NC 750 S (21st place) – they are in the range between around 320 and 220 new registrations per model.

The Honda CMX 500 A Rebel just barely missed the top 10 (38th overall private registrations). In this ranking it is probably the bike with the lowest seat height and that is why it is so popular with one or the other woman under 1.60 meters tall. Behind them are Kawasaki Ninja 650 (33rd place overall private registrations), Kawasaki Vulcan S (26th place), Ducati Scrambler (13th place), Honda CBR 500 R (35th place), Harley-Davidson Fourty-Eight (20th place) , Honda NC 750 X (9th place), Yamaha MT-09 (8th place), Yamaha Tracer 700 (23rd place) and Harley-Davidson 883 (42nd place).

A total of 9.7 percent new registrations to women

Of a total of 100,128 newly registered motorcycles, 9,693 women were registered in the previous year, that is 9.7 percent. In 2016 there were 10,977 new registrations for women (9.4 percent of the total registrations), in 2015 9,813 new registrations were made for women, which represents a share of 9.7 percent of the overall market. New motorcycle registrations for women have therefore held a stable share of just under ten percent for three years.
