Honda CBR 600F.
They know that you have to clean when your athlete’s paintwork is in large letters “Clean me up” or “sow” is legible. You also know when the cooling fins and exhaust manifold are barely visible from the dirt, and at the latest when you can no longer reflect yourself in the chrome of your cruiser. You shouldn’t let it get that far.
With regular care, your loyal friend not only looks much better, but wear and tear and possible defects also come to light early on during cleaning and can be fixed. For this alone, it is worth investing around 50 euros in the basic range of chemical aids such as aluminum / paint care products, oils, greases and cleaners.
You also benefit from proper maintenance if you want to sell your motorcycle: You can spend a few hundreds more on a well-maintained used bike. By then, at the latest, the amount you spend on care products will be worth it. Besides the chemical helpers, your basic equipment should of course also include a bucket, sponge, paint brush and brush.
After the motorcycle has been thoroughly cleaned and the superficial dirt has been removed, special cleaners can be used in detail. You can get the care products either in DIY stores or in motorcycle accessories stores such as Hein Gericke, Louis, Polo and others. Take your time – your motorcycle will feel like it has been rebuilt.
Aluminum and chrome care products
100 g fillings are available from five euros. When complete cleaners and multi-oils wear out heavily soiled, anodized aluminum rims or corroded chrome surfaces, special agents such as Nevr-Dull polishing wadding (for aluminum), the chrome care agent Autosol or corresponding polishes from Rotweiss help.
Brake cleaner
The highly volatile liquid has a strong fat-dissolving effect and works without leaving any residue. When cleaning brake discs and drums, it is essential to wear protective gloves, as the cleaner attacks the skin. Incidentally, it is better to clean the inside of the brake calipers with silicone spray, as the rubber piston sealing rings are very sensitive to brake cleaners.
(500 ml from 1.50 euros)
Chain spray
(400 ml can for 10 euros) When spraying the chain: plenty on the inside, moderate on the outside. When a narrow streak forms in the middle of the tread, it’s time to grease. Rule: it is better to apply more often and sparingly than rarely and thickly. Let it work for at least 15 minutes before starting your journey so that the agent can creep into all the cracks. Tip: Many vendors have small fillings for out and about, which can be stowed well under the bench
Universal grease
400 ml can for 10 euros. Main and side stand mechanics, wheel, swing arm and steering head bearings – tough grease lubricates much more permanently at these points than oil. An application during every major maintenance – at least once a year – guarantees permanent function and durability.
Silicone spray, paint and plastic freshener

With a soulful care treatment, your motorcycle will look great again in no time and it will stay healthy.
300 ml between 5 and 10 euros. The sun causes rubber, plastics and painted parts to tarnish and fade. Cracks and porous areas arise. To prevent this, silicone spray or varnish and plastic polish help to preserve the deep shine and elasticity. Under no circumstances use multi-oils for rubber stoppers, intake manifolds, plastic linings and windshields, they remove plasticizers from the material; Plastic, rubber and paint then age faster.
Complete cleaner
Between 10 and 20 euros per liter. Good products stick as a gel to dirty surfaces. Do not use in the blazing sun and leave it on for only a few minutes on the cooled motorcycle before rinsing it off with a strong jet of water. Otherwise aluminum parts may tarnish. The dirt dissolves as if by magic, and with a little cleaning the motorcycle is clean again. Doesn’t have to be once a week, but on a regular basis so that the dirt doesn’t get stuck.
Creeping / multi-oil
200 to 500 ml can for 5 euros. Ideal for lubricating and preserving small bearings, hand and foot levers or locks. Even creeps into places that are extremely difficult to access, displacing moisture that otherwise promotes corrosion. The creeping or multi-oils also loosen stubborn dirt such as chain grease or brake abrasion particles from the rim, swing arm, silencer and other metal surfaces.
