Used advice Honda CBF 500
More than a driving school bike
In the ranking of the most inconspicuous motorcycles, the CBF 500 occupies a top position. Outside of driving schools it is hardly noticed? wrongly.

The Honda CBF 500 appeared at the same time as its bigger sister, the CBF 600, but in a simpler version. There are no adjustment options for the seat and handlebars, and there is neither fairing nor the second front brake disc. The wheels, tires, chassis and design, on the other hand, are largely identical.
Only a third of first-time buyers saved the 600 Euro surcharge for the formidable ABS, this distribution is also reflected in the offer. Not least because of the easy handling and the “easy-going” feeling that the CBF exudes, it was and is often used as a driving school motorcycle. And she doesn’t get bored of old hands either. The tires of 120 / 70-17 at the front and 160 / 60-17 at the rear, which are fat for this class, show that the chassis is derived directly from the Hornet. The fact that it has to cope with 40 horses more can be booked as a safety cushion and explains the rather high weight of the small Honda of 211 kilograms.
The 57 hp two-cylinder, almost unchanged from the CB 500, is considered to be very low-maintenance and indestructible, but also requires diligent operation of the easily shiftable six-speed gearbox for dynamic locomotion. The only points of criticism that remain are the rather high price, the choke attached directly to the carburetor and the stubborn rear shock absorber.
sightseeing
The classic headlight shines brightly.
Visiting the smallest of all CBFs is actually just a finger exercise. Mechanical or other weaknesses are not known, which is why the assessment can be limited to an examination of the wearing parts such as tires, chains and brake pads. The engine, almost unchanged from the proven CB 500, is easily good for 100,000 kilometers. Greater attention is only required if the CBF has served as a driving school motorcycle. Then it is advisable to examine areas at risk of falling, such as the steering head stops, engine side covers, the handlebar ends and the exhaust for value-reducing fall marks. There is a simple reason why most of the CBF 500 are offered in their original condition: model-specific accessories are in short supply for this type.
Market situation
Simple cockpit: you don’t have to know what it doesn’t show.
The official sales figures from Honda are almost identical to those of the Federal Motor Transport Authority, which means nothing more than that 99 percent of all CBF 500 are still on the road. This speaks for both the robustness of the Honda and the caution of its drivers. Around two thirds of all CBF have ABS. You can get a used 500 from 3000 euros, 2007 demonstration models are available from around 5800 euros. The range is sufficiently large, as many beginners switch to a larger bike after two years. Longer distances only have to be accepted if the CBF is to have a certain color and at the same time no ABS.
