On the way down, the cable lies under the side cover and ends at the LED lamp, the bracket of which is hung from the original BMW screws, which are already there.

A hotel parking lot that is poorly lit and piled up with gravel is sometimes enough to illustrate the usefulness of the side stand lighting.

Wunderlich LED side stand lighting
Wunderlich LED side stand lighting
Light at the end of the stand
Not every motorcyclist maneuvers his bike into an illuminated garage in the evening. Sometimes it can make sense to illuminate the ground before the side stand folds out. For this purpose, Wunderlich now has the LED side stand lighting in its range.

The arrival at [please insert your favorite lake in Northern Italy here] was of course planned in daylight – just like planning day trips. Because riding a motorcycle in the dark is simply a whole lot more demanding than driving a car. As it is, sometimes there are just more pee breaks than planned, the navigation system hangs up and the passengers also remember that they want to have lunch. The sun leans far too early towards the horizon and the booked guesthouse shines far away. The side stand lighting now helps Whimsical no further either.
But if the driver then has to drive into a parking space (for the umpteenth restart of the navigation system) or finally drives to the hotel parking lot (of course, piled up with gravel), the LED accessory lamp attached to the motorcycle can help: the unknown or even unpaved surface is illuminated and thus facilitates the assessment of whether it is a suitable place.
For current water boxers and six-cylinder
But the side stand lighting from Wunderlich can also do good for the townspeople among us: there is the same space on the sidewalk for the bike every evening, but the neighbour’s dog does not choose the same place for his big business every day …
A third possibility from our wealth of experience: We are out and about in wild terrain (hardcore dirt road, 30s zone with potholes or the like), have once again grossly overestimated ourselves and have to stop to a) illuminate our road book under the tank bag foil and b) calling home that the family is not waiting for us to eat. In this case, the side stand lighting reduces the risk of the stand being on loose or too soft ground and the motorcycle tipping over. Then we would have to call home again and ask a few family members to help us pick up a slightly larger motorcycle. The Wunderlich side stand lighting is currently available for the water-cooled boxer models as well as for all current six-cylinder BMWs.

Rizoma motor protection with integrated LED
Rizoma
With Rizoma, the LED is integrated in the enduro underbody protection. The add-on part costs 349 euros and is available for the BMW R 1200 GS.
The Wunderlich side stand lighting costs 99.90 euros. It is made in Germany and, as far as we know, the only one of its kind to date. Rizoma has an enduro engine protection for the BMW R 1200 GS in its range (349 euros) that comes with an integrated floor lamp. Whenever the side stand folds out, the LED lights up the surface for 60 seconds. The LED light source from Wunderlich, on the other hand, works at the push of a button. The price also includes the discreetly designed control element, which – attached to the right of the handlebar – is hardly noticeable. After installation, it is switched with the CanBus so that the LED cannot drain the battery: If the driver switches off the ignition, the lamp also goes out after a delay. However, if you switch on the LED while driving, it can theoretically light up for the entire journey. In spite of the E-ID for the official registration, the permanent “underbody lighting” would not be in compliance with the StVo.
The manufacturer describes the assembly as “easy”, the connection works via plug connections, so the soldering device does not have to be plugged in. In our picture gallery we also have a few examples from the installation instructions.
Conclusion
Anyone who drives a current BMW water boxer or six-cylinder and has thought more than once before folding out their side stand: “Shit, can I park my moped here like this?”, The side stand lighting from Wunderlich may be worth an investment for. Mainly because, in addition to the control element, it is also supplied with a bracket and connection cable and comes with a five-year guarantee.
