Under the title “bLU cRU” wanted to Yamaha host the YZF-R3 bLU cRU Cup as early as 2020 within the International German Motorcycle Championship IDM. In the 2021 season it will start on June 12th as part of the Yamaha Track Days in Oschersleben. The aim of this program is, on the one hand, to build a “blue community” and on the other hand, the targeted promotion of talented young drivers for road and off-road racing.
The bLU cRU program, which was planned for 2020, should be adopted in a very similar way for 2021 and could therefore look like this: The drivers of the YZF-R3 bLU cRU Cup drive in their own classification and have the chance to in the Europe-wide talent camp “Masterclass” to be invited. The best of the “Masterclass” are then accepted into the bLU cRU team within the World Supersport 300 class in the following year. However, this has not yet been officially confirmed.
Pirelli tires
“Our goal with the bLU cRU Cup is to provide the best possible support to young talent in racing”, says Marcel Driessen, Country Manager at Yamaha Motor Deutschland GmbH. “Important factors here are excellent material and the closest possible interaction with the respective top racing classes such as the IDM or the SBK World Championships. With Pirelli slicks, our drivers benefit from the top performance of the tires and can also easily move up to higher classes.”
Bjorn Lohmann, Sales Manager Racing: “We are very happy to be able to support another series with the bLU cRU Cup, which is mostly driven within the framework of the IDM. On the one hand, this ensures maximum comparability across the entire starting field, and on the other hand, the drivers and teams provide us with even more important input that we can use to improve our products.”
Cup package including clothing for 9,990 euros
That “Sports equipment” of the bLU cRU program on the road is the Yamaha YZF-R3. In Germany the so-called “Yamaha R3 bLU cRU Challenge” Tendered for 2020 as part of the IDM Supersport 300. Yamaha is offering a package consisting of a motorcycle and special racing parts for the price of 9,990 euros. The vehicles are delivered fully assembled and are all the same, so that equal opportunities are guaranteed among the R3 drivers. The conversion includes a GYTR engine kit (GYTR = Genuine Yamaha Technology for Racing), an Ohlins suspension kit and various race-specific accessories. Also included is a rider’s clothing package consisting of an IXS leather suit including gloves and boots, an X-lite helmet and an extensive Yamaha Paddock Blue team clothing set. There is also technical support from Yamaha. Here the manufacturer was able to win Michael Galinski as responsible.
Riders and bikes housed in the bLU cRU Village
All YZF-R3 bLU cRU Cup drivers are accommodated with their motorcycles in the bLU cRU Village. “In the attached Yamaha Race Truck, workshops are offered every weekend to bring the participants closer to the topic of racing in both practical and theoretical terms.
The target group are both newcomers from the ADAC Mini Bike Cup and the ADAC Junior Cup as well as newcomers who have not been actively involved in motorcycle racing up to now. So that they can acquire a B license, Yamaha will hold a kick-off training session in which experienced instructors will bring participants closer to motorcycling on the racetrack”, it says in Yamaha’s current press release.
