Bimota DB7 1098 2008

Menus

After a period of marginal sports cars with a strong identity and measured power (the recent DB5, DB6 and Tesi 3D are equipped with Ducati’s air-cooled 2-valve twin desmo), Bimota is back on the big guns with this new DB7. Big concentrate of Italian know-how, cocktail of high pedigree chassis and severely vitaminized engine.

This 7th Bimota with Ducati engine makes roar in its midst the formidable 1098 cm3 of the last sportswoman of Bologna. A short visit to the workshops of Rimini should allow him to spit out a few more horses than the 160 which were originally agitated..

But the essential of a Bimota are its chassis, which the small manufacturer strives to design with refinement, offbeat and innovative technical solutions, and high fashion pieces. Take me to this trellis frame in chromium molybdenum steel tubes connected to perforated aluminum plates and cut in the mass. The swingarm alone is a technical treat. The wheel is fixed to plates (also in aluminum cut in the mass) screwed on a tubular structure. The ExtremeTech shock is anchored to the swingarm brace, not to the frame. Moreover, the fixing axis of the arm as the footrest plates (small jewels of aluminum) cling to the engine casings. The large Marzocchi inverted fork, probably 50 mm in diameter, is equipped like any modern machine with an all-radial braking system. Linger a little bit on the superb triple tree or the hollowed out side stand. And what about its very beautiful forged aluminum rims with ultra-thin spokes?.
The other guest of honor on the DB7 is carbon. And there are everywhere: the fairing, the mudguard, the self-supporting rear shell, the clutch housing, the gearbox output pinion cover are made of this noble material..

Advertised for barely 170 kg dry, the DB7 is 5 kg lighter than Bimota’s previous twin hyperpsort, the SB8K. Designed to cross swords with the best sports on the planet, it will give a grain of passion to grind to many fans of beautiful machines. Its price, as usual, will not fail to stick a cold sweat on your banker.
