BMW R 1150 GS 2001

Menus

Descendant of the R 1100 GS with recognized qualities (but with a more discreet career), the 1150 is a grand cru which surprisingly improves everything that could be. His new face can shock or disturb but does not go unnoticed, especially with this duckbill and his crooked look. The Boxer is also entitled to its makeover, with more cm3, the cylinders of the R 1200 C as well as the crankshaft and the gearbox of the R 1100 S. With this new transmission, the GS wins a 6th report. A plus for consumption because it acts as an overdrive. Superb refinement from the Bavarian manufacturer, the saddle can be adjusted in height, allowing as many people as possible to put their feet on the ground. What amazes the most about this big trail is its ease of handling. Very flexible, the powerful twin is available over a wide rev range. Like all BM flats, its behavior is somewhat confusing for the novice. Fortunately, the reversal torque is not very evident and adds charm to this mechanism..

An excellent point also for this trail-road, it is its chassis. Very balanced, it allows you to forget the weight of the GS and combines dynamic strengths. The bike dives very little when braking thanks to the Telelever, which also preserves comfort. The rear single-sided arm which houses the universal joint is ideally designed: it erases the faults typical of this type of transmission to preserve only the qualities. In use, the 1150 offers very good road behavior, a pleasant gearbox, efficient braking that can receive the reinforcement of ABS, and more than adequate protection. However, a larger windscreen would not be refused in the case of very GT use. The passenger will be comfortable, well installed and also enjoying the comfort. The list of options is long, interesting but quickly inflates the already substantial price. But the R 1150 GS is a sacred motorcycle that does justice to the star brand.
