End of 100 horses, electric motorcycle … The CSIAM facing the big files 2015
The International Chamber of Motor Vehicles and Motorcycles took stock of the 2014 French market for motorized 2 and 3 wheels. Among the other topics discussed, MNC retains four: equipment, 50 cc, electric … and 100 horses !
Soon the end of motorcycles “ without ” horses in France
Some French bikers still doubt it today and yet, it is a certainty: as of January 1, 2016 at the latest, motorcycles of more than 100 horsepower (200 hp for recent "Superbikes") will be able to ride freely in France.
The thorny question of the "retro-fit" (retroactivity), on the other hand, is still not resolved: to this day, nobody yet knows if the bikers will have the right to unleash their motorbikes back to their original configuration to enjoy to their full potential … or resell them without breaking their price !
"Our objective is of course to avoid destroying value", explains Thierry Archambault, president and delegate of the CSIAM, whether it is the value of a new motorcycle clamped – therefore taped? – at a dealership, or that of a used motorcycle.
It is indeed inconceivable that a motorcycle – sports, in particular – could be devalued – divided by two, why not ?! – on the pretext that it only develops half the power of an identical model coming off the same assembly lines a few months apart.
"We now have to work with the government to be sure that retroactivity will be possible and that our customers who bought a motorcycle with 100 hp in 2015 will be able to legally transform it into full power European approval once the month of january 2016", Eric de Seynes predicted more than two years ago, interviewed by MNC as part of our .
"This will be the stake", perfectly analyzed the boss of Yamaha Motor France,"so that our customers are not penalized by a motorcycle they would have purchased previously. We must also maintain a real value of the second-hand market, it is important to do so in a responsible manner with regard to our customers."…
Today at 11 months – maximum! – from the deadline, the work continues … "We have a meeting with the public authorities scheduled for the very beginning of February", warns Thierry Archambault, president and delegate of the CSIAM,"and we hope that it will allow us to obtain some answers".
Because time is running out for manufacturers too … "Factories will soon be faced with a production concern: should they continue to produce machines specific to the French market or not ?The MNC editorial team has its own idea on the issue: NOPE !
