We no longer present the Monster; it will soon be 15 years of existence and we never tire of seeing it on the roads or in magazines. Ducati does not get tired of it either, success requires. And yet, after so many years, after multiple versions, after so much passion, the Monster returns in a new facet and still manages to surprise us..
Not by design, although its silhouette still charms as much. Adorning itself in turn with the new look of the Monster – multi-tubular single-sided arm and raised side exhausts – the 1000 completes the R family initiated by the S4R and recently taken over by the 800 S2R. Magura aluminum handlebars, carbon side covers, stripe decoration, nose screen, Michelin Pilot Power as standard; these little touches that complete this evolution make the S2R 1000 a much more interesting machine than the 1000 DS it replaces. Not only its price makes it the monster with the best quality / price / equipment ratio, but its engine has become a much nicer and more user-friendly traveling companion than before. Reading the technical sheet, however, it was not obvious. The twin desmo double ignition has gained a little power and torque, a lot in enjoyment.
It is by its new character that the Monster surprises the most. Previous versions of the air-cooled twin have never been known for their flexibility or smoothness. The very latest cartography developed for the Bolognese motorcycle sends these references to oblivion. Today it is much more flexible, while still remaining very vigorous and usable over a very wide rev range..
Now is the time to play a bit. By focusing on the intermediate reports, the twin generously distributes its large torque (10 mkg at 5,000 rpm) and allows you to have fun until the red zone. Do not hesitate to attack by holding it to the body: the mill pulls without losing breath while the chassis transforms power on the road into efficiency and performance. With the help of Pilot Power and raised exhausts, the Italian roadster can take more angle than before, without fear of machining the edge of the silencers.
If, like any Monster, the S2R 1000 is particularly appreciated by winding in mid-revs, where the torque overflows, it also allows you to do the andouille with a few figures of speech, to arouse the attack of the hills. … or have it off in the city center.
The look of the S4R, watts and a good big ladle of torque for almost plates less than the big sister … The Monster 1000 S2R is devilishly tempting. The only real problem is that it may cast a shadow over the other Monsters in the range. She has a lot going for her, if not the best.
