Breaking the saddle fastening, weak brakes – acute risk of accidents see the testers of the ADAC and the Foundation Warentest on some e-bike models. Especially hard hit three models:

  • Traveler E Tour FL of KettleR (mounting broke)
  • Alu-City-Electrorad of Aldi (North) / Hansa (attachment broke)
  • Alu-Electric City Bike ECU 1603 of Fisherman (Seatpost broke)

Two other e-bikes received the verdict "Inadequate" Because of bad brakes: the E-Courier Forma of Stevens and the model Premio E8 F of Pegasus.

That’s what the manufacturers say

Two of the manufacturers now defend themselves and doubt the test results:

  • Kettler emphasized that since December 2015 as Kettler Alu-Rad GmbH company company and there is no connection to Kettler GmbH & Co. Kg Give, from whose production the tested e-bike comes from. "For the saddle clamp, Heinz Kettler GmbH & Co. Kg via a test, after which this supplier is significantly overbursted the statutory standards significantly." Make sure you make sure that "Kettler bikes that are inevitably associated with our company are safe and fulfill all consumer expectations." You have commissioned your own tests and the TuV Rheinland has found that "The saddle clamp affected even an additional stress test that is 25 percent above the statutory norm fulfilled". The company does not provide reports on broken saddle clamps at customers.
  • Pegasus, Represented by the ZEG two-wheeled purchasing cooperative, defends itself against the result of the brake test. "In the current e-bike examination of the Stiftung Warentest, the Elektrorad Pegasus Premio E8F is again one of the test wheels after 2014. While Pegasus Premio E8F received the grade of ‘good’ as one of only three wheels two years ago, the bike was now rated surprisingly with ‘poor’ rated", the company wonders. It is incomprehensible, which is why an identical brake system leads to two tests at different results. In addition, it is called a press release from Pegasus: "The Stiftung Warentest has tested in the current test in the brake and complete wheel test carried out with a total load of 150 kg. The TESTRAD PEGASUS PREMIO E8F is the manufacturer but expressly approved only for a total weight (e-bike, driver and payload) of 135 kg." The test results become as "practical" Criticized: "Each product previously or later has defects when it is only tested long enough against clear manufacturer’s specifications", so the company.
  • Fisherman says that the Pedelec examinations contested in the ADAC tests at three institutes (TuV Sud, Velotech and Hanse Control) "without complaints" go through. Following the testerbennis, Fischer has carried out at traded e-bikes night tests, where the wheel "clearly beyond the valid standards" had been burdened. There were no defects on the saddle post at the tests. Fischer refers to the ADAC tests as "practical". There had also been no complaints of customers.

That says Aldi

To the poor performance of the "Alu-City" Electric wheels said a speaker of Aldi Nord on request from Site: "The aluminum-city electric bike tested in the current issue of the Stiftung Warentest was tested by an accredited and independent test institute. All necessary examinations, which are partly over the legal requirements, were fulfilled. This includes, among other things, the braking effect and the dynamic strength of the saddle clamp."

After the announcement of the test results, one had a further examination of another institute and also found no defects. The e-bike has been sold since March 2016, complaints from customers have not given so far.

Not only according to legal requirements

ADAC and Foundation Warentest are known to not always limit themselves to legally predetermined limits in their tests, as far as the long-term tests are concerned. At the last Pedelec test in 2013, the results were still much worse failed.

  1. If everyone has been tested equal?
Then, now yes, these wheels would still be the most problematic wheels. If I now get another bike tested for the same price, which is not so well tested wheels or even cheaper, I know which I do not buy. They seem to fall out in any case earlier than the other wheels. or?
