A sharp look and excellent quality of comfort and finish for this cross or supermotard helmet
Sizes from XXS to XXXL, 4 inner and 3 outer shell sizes, 7 colors, from € 319.95
A cross or supermoto helmet, it is necessarily stylish ! Pointed visor and prominent chin bar, it is impressive! But in this universe, the AGV AX-8 Evo helmet is downright very stylish! With its visor with very sharp edges and its chin bar which sports an octagonal metal ventilation grille, the AGV AX-8 Evo does not leave indifferent, although this helmet is not very young now, within the AGV catalog. Indeed, the AGV AX-8 appeared in 2011 and the AX-8 Evo succeeded it a year later. AGV keeps this helmet up to date with regularly changing liveries, with a color chart that even featured a Valentino Rossi replica livery. !
Attention to detail
Once the first shock is over, let’s take a look at this AGV AX-8 Evo in detail, details that are very numerous for a helmet whose primary purpose is to face stones and mud, or even to get shaken hard. the rind by a supermoto. Going around the owner, it is a double sensation of refinement and solidity that emerges from this helmet. Strength, because the base of the helmet and the top of the chin bar are covered with a plastic protection which is made to withstand time and the elements. The adjustments are perfect and of excellent quality. The steel ventilation grid is firmly anchored in the chin bar, without any play or vibration, as are the two small side ventilation grilles. Bodes well for the holding of the whole in muscular and shaken driving. The shell has two ventilation ducts: on the front, the mechanism which allows to block them is solid and can be handled with gloves.
The good surprises continue with the double D buckle, one of the rings of which is for better ergonomics, with a small leather tongue with the AGV logo. As for the two aluminum screws that hold the visor, they exude solidity.
Astonishing comfort
When we realize that, on both sides, the bases of the chinstrap are lined with a small tongue in soft fabric like a little kitten, we start, as soon as we put it on, to have a positive a priori on the level of comfort that will go. lavish this AGV AX-8 Evo. And, it is fortunate, this a priori quickly becomes a certainty. And this for many reasons.
First, this is due to the comfort of the interior foams, the coating of which is pleasant to the touch. A comfort that is prolonged in hot weather or in the event of sustained driving, since this helmet is extremely well ventilated: already by the generous opening and the wide field of vision that it offers to its pilot, but also because the vents do not are not only numerous, they are also efficient and easy to handle. Finally, because the comfort of a helmet is also due to its weight: that of the AX-8 Evo is reduced, claimed at around 1150 grams by its manufacturer (but verified at 925 grams on the scale of the kitchen of the Den des Bikers!) And, in fact, participates in the excellent general approval. As for this chin bar which seems so aggressive and so bulky, it is forgotten when worn and it only slightly obstructs the field of vision, which is a good thing for this helmet with very TT DNA but which can also be worn in an urban environment on the handlebars of a trail or a supermotard. Thus, despite several hours of driving, this helmet remains a pleasure to wear despite its noise, very logical in the context of road use. The range of sizes offered is very wide (from XXS to XXXL), but AGV has 3 sizes of outer shell and 4 sizes of inner shell, which allows each body type to feel comfortable..
Only criticism: the arrangement of the interior foams leaves you with a haircut that will sport small waves at the level of the ears which would have been very fashionable at Versailles around 1770. A minor detail for some, but which may be important if you use your supermoto to get to your company’s board of directors. Perfection, alas, does not exist.
For winter, a small optional cover allows you to obstruct the ventilation grid of the chin guard and to stay (almost warm). The AGV AX-8 Evo comes with a padded, triple-layered carrying case.
The AGV AX-8 Evo is available in white, as well as in 6 other decos (including a replica by Thomas Chareyre), in a price range from 319.95 to 369.95 €. A Carbon version is also available, at € 459.95.
