If the French motorcycle GP took place in front of a small audience because of the Covid-19, the French fans did not miss the event: 1.05 million viewers witnessed the surprise victory of Danilo Petrucci , to the spectacular rise of Johann Zarco and the wise management of Fabio Quartararo in the wet !

Coronavirus requires, were able to attend the French Motorcycle Grand Prix from the three stands in front of the stands, respecting barrier gestures and without the possibility of camping around the circuit. In this context, around 500 places would not have finally found takers: the organizer reminded the interested parties on its site 48 hours before the race…

The gloomy weather forecast – alas, correct! – did not help convince to pay the 90 euros requested, despite the superb poster of the tricolor clan: Fabio Quartararo arrived – and left – leading the provisional at home, Johann Zarco – on pole then 3rd in the Czech Republic – comes to sign at Pramac, while Tech3 achieved its first MotoGP success thanks to Oliveira in Austria !

So many events which convinced the organizer Claude Michy to move heaven and earth in favor of "his" Grand Prix de France – postponed from May to October because of the health crisis – "to allow sports to exist, but also to allow our French representatives to express themselves on their lands ".

"We hung on and remained standing for this 2020 French Grand Prix to take place", rejoices Claude Michy, delighted to have seen Fabio Quartararo take pole in the dry. Unheard of since the creation of the championship in 1949, since never had a French driver approached his national Grand Prix as leader of the premier class. Double feat for Fabio, so !

But if the presence of spectators was limited around the circuit, enthusiasts largely responded to this by interposed screens: Canal + announces an impressive audience of "1.05 million tlsp (viewers, Editor’s note)" to the cumulative number of retransmissions with C8, which belongs to in addition to the Canal + group, itself owned by the Vivendi group.

A peak audience of "1.35 million viewers" was even measured by Canal +, which remains strangely discreet on the distribution of this audience between its pay channel and C8 which is accessible free of charge….

MNC’s little finger tells him that the TNT channel must have won the big bucks insofar as Canal + gathered around 3.4 million subscribers at the end of 2019: it is difficult to imagine that a third of its subscribers are interested in the motorcycle, especially since the encrypted channel broadcast just after the Formula 1 Eifel GP exclusively.

  • MNC of 25 November 2019 : Canal + announces a 66% increase in audience in France !

By way of comparison, this audience for the French GP is twice as high as the average achieved by Canal + last year with "". The encrypted channel had reached its best score at the 2019 Country GP with “576,000 spectators throughout France”. The 2020 French round smashes all records !

"I look forward to seeing you in May 2021 for the next edition of the Grand Prix de France, hoping that by then we will find an organization worthy of the name, a sign of the improvement in sanitary conditions that we all expect. ", concludes Claude Michy with optimism.
