The Street Bob has a somewhat special status at Harley. It is similar to the entry-level Big Block engine models. This does not mean that it is a cheap motorcycle, on the contrary, and interesting in more ways than one. A machine favoring sensations, stripped down as a bobber should be, and endowed with a certain sporty side for the daring of the terrain.
The limits of the Street Bob were those of the Dyna chassis. It will be quite different with this new version. Like the majority of the members of this now defunct family, it is based on the new version of the chassis … Softail. You read correctly. And stop coughing because it’s the same sauce for the Low Rider and the Fat Bob.
Now that the pill has passed, moderation will take place on its own with the specifics of the framework in question. The basic formula has not changed: a deceptively Hardtail frame made of steel tubing. Except that a big evolution ladle makes it lighter and more rigid, with better ground clearance and improved peripherals. The two shock absorbers under the engine have cleared, leaving the job to a single shock absorber under the saddle. More efficient, it will work in concert with an improved fork as well, from the Touring models..
Once contact has been established, any notion of half measures or moderation must disappear. Just the road, the bike, the hands at the shoulders, and a big twin to make it all vibrate. Except at idle. Because the M8 has received good manners in its genetic heritage … uh, mechanical. Vibrations greatly reduced when the speed is sluggish, then up to the large torque of this engine. A heart of beef, with strong breathing and a generous hand. Almost 15 mkg are there to show you the dark and raw side of the machine, and of the individual. Driving promises to be much more lively than with the old Dyna. Because not content to benefit from a more efficient chassis and a twin cylinder maousse, the Street Bob has lost 7 kilos in the balance.
While driving with the Street Bob, it is forbidden not to have fun. On the other hand, authorized or not, we will take the quiche full: there is no protection, and driving at high speed will not be appreciated either by the neck or the arms. Reduced to a minimum, the machine even ignored a needle counter. Instead, a tiny digital screen embedded in the handlebar trigger guard displays the essentials. A boorish block of information like the machine: posed in the face of emotion, one would almost wonder why want more.
