The current pandemic situation has caused the IDM organizers to cancel the planned IDM season start. The ADAC Sachsenring Classic will not take place either.

From April 30 to May 2, 2021, the start of the International German Motorcycle Championship (IDM) 2021 should have taken place on the motorsport facility in Niederlausitz. “We fought for a long time to be able to run the races as planned. But we need security for everyone involved in order to realize such an event. This affects the organizers, partners, teams and drivers. We lacked these guarantees, both in the form of official commitments and ensuring the necessary medical care in the region. As a result, we would have had to take an incalculable risk. We cannot do this due to our responsibility to all those involved and our respect for the pandemic situation. In addition, the current national and international restrictions do not allow a regulated and fair course of the championship races. As a result, we had to make this decision two weeks before the scheduled start of the IDM”, Series manager Normann Broy explains the cancellation.

IDM inflow uninterrupted

The IDM has developed into a highlight in motorcycle road racing over the past five years. This year, drivers from ten countries have registered in the premier class IDM Superbike 1000 alone. Despite the few races that took place last season, the number of visitors is unbroken. Despite the Corona crisis, the IDM organizers were one of the few organizers to pull out all the stops in 2020 to realize at least one short and compact season.

ADAC Sachsenring Classic canceled

After the IDM kick-off at the Lausitzring was canceled, the “ADAC Sachsenring Classic 2021” cancelled. The prestige event on the traditional race track is also not feasible due to the ongoing corona pandemic. As part of the cult event from May 7th to 9th, training sessions and two races of the IDM Superbike 1000 were also planned as highlights. Despite the exclusion of spectators, there is still no reliable approval of the event by the authorities. As a result, the ADAC Sachsen e.V. no longer has the necessary lead time for the organization in order to guarantee the event planning to the full extent.

Conclusion

“The coronavirus has now put a stop to the season opener in 2021”, series manager Normann Broy explains the cancellation, “but that will not prevent us from finding solutions for a successful season, as we did last year.”
