First exit with the new power ninja

Kawasaki plans to continue clearing in the Superbike World Championship. As a homologation model, the Kawasaki ZX-10RR, limited to 500 pieces and sharpened in detail, is now available, which MOTORRAD got to know on the GP slope in Aragon.

For the second time in a row Kawasaki won the Superbike World Championship with Jonathan Rea and the ZX-10R. It was a victory in the end, but certainly not a gift. In the second half of the season, the Greens had to fight hard with a strengthened Chaz Davies on the Ducati Panigale R. But they have already made provisions for 2017: The Kawasaki ZX-10RR serves as the homologation basis for next year’s World Cup machine and is available in a limited number of 500 units.

First exit with the new power ninja

One to two seconds faster per lap

Just a few days after the last Superbike race in Qatar, the racing teams had the opportunity to make contact with the new Kawasaki ZX-10RR for a few laps as part of the usual winter tests in Motorland Aragon. Thanks to better equipment and some changes to the engine, it should be stronger and above all faster than a normal ZX-10R, according to Kawasaki about one to two seconds per lap. In addition, the double-R rolls on lightweight Marchesini forged wheels, has an automatic gearshift with blipper function, a chassis optimized for the racetrack, and high-grip Pirelli Supercorsa SP as initial tires – it also comes only as a single-seater. Camshafts with sharper profiles and more lift create fire. In addition, harder valve springs are installed, and DLC-coated bucket tappets reduce internal friction. The reinforced crankcase has special bores to minimize pumping losses between the cylinders and to improve pressure equalization. Especially for ambitious hobby racers, the RR is an excellent basis for further tuning.

Ideal toy for hobby racers

The test machine in Aragon was also equipped with a complete Akrapovic system and a kit ECU with special mapping. Even from the low revs, the night-black ninja pushes powerfully without breaking in, the thrust does not want to stop at all. Nevertheless, the four-cylinder accelerates directly and gently. Exactly how it should be. Furthermore, the double-R pleases with its light, very balanced handling. The motorcycle offers taller pilots plenty of space and good wind protection on the straights. At top speed, in an inclined position and when braking, the RR is extremely stable and collects points thanks to its balance. The standard blipper also worked flawlessly during the test laps. Unfortunately, there was only a small time window for the test drive. But after the first impression one can already say: The Kawasaki ZX-10RR would make many amateur racers extremely happy as a late Christmas present.
