  • "The Legend of Heroes is above all a state of mind made of conviviality, the pleasure of riding in your hand and the discovery of new horizons.", recalls Hubert Auriol, director of the organization.

The three-time Dakar winner – twice on a motorcycle in 1981 and 1983 and once in a car in 1992 – moreover defines his sporting raid as "a response to most of the "professional" races organized today which have become unaffordable financially and physically insurmountable for an amateur pilot. An answer to all those who said to themselves: I will go to Dakar one day"…

An "answer" which nevertheless supposes a significant investment of 15,550 euros for the registration for a team of three people in the Classic category. Last year, 130 people saw their wish come true (read) and next year, Hubert Auriol is counting on an increase "more than 50% of the number of participants"thanks to several new features.

Thus, the "Classic" category will extend to all off-road or trail models manufactured before 1995, all brands of motorcycle combined. "If your bike does not fit in this category, you can participate in the "Open" category", even add the organizers.

Within the two categories, the goal will nevertheless be the same: to complete the 6,500 km which separate Paris from Dakar by following the indications in the road-book and respecting "the average, and not the speed, that you will have chosen yourself", insists Hubert Auriol.

"The course is made up of rolling tracks (fun!), Technical parts (you need some …), dunes (from time to time!), Multitudes of different landscapes, plateaus, plains, oases , 360 ° of desert and happiness every day", sums up the ex-champion, who once again underlines the convivial side of his event, also open to 4×4.

Going against those who believe that a raid "without miseries" is not a raid, Hubert Auriol and his team have decided to offer the adventure of the Legend of Heroes to as many people as possible, thanks to a new category called "Bivouac-Bivouac".

"You can choose to participate to ride, to travel but you can also assist a team that participates in the Legend of Heroes", explains the organization, which plans to stop at the same places the participants of the" Legend "and those of the" Bivouac ".

Sharing common connecting roads, when the first will venture far from the beaten track on a "race" route, the others will take "tracks"very rolling and without any difficulty", more oriented towards the discovery of Africa.

An opportunity for the KTM 990 Adventure or R 1200 GS – among others – to reconnect with the wide open spaces from which they came, while sparing their owners the fear of having to ride over their boots…
