Market reports - A gloomy summer 2009 for motorcycles ... - A gloomy summer 2009

A gloomy summer 2009

Optimists will have noted that last summer, motorcycle sales did particularly well, allowing the market to reach new records (read). We have to admit that it is difficult to beat or even maintain such a rhythm !

Some will also recall that Piaggio’s MP3 LTs are not considered, in the eyes of the administration, as "two-wheelers" but as "motor tricycles". Thus, the 2,066 registrations of LT 250 and 400 – which represent almost as many unsold 125 cc scooters or motorcycles – during the last two months are therefore missing..

Finally, we can notice that the concessions remained open two days less this summer compared to last year: 44 days in July and August 2008 against 42 last year … Again, from a point of view statistically, the drops in motorcycle sales may therefore be moderate.

Over the first eight months of 2009, the motorcycle market is therefore looking gloomy. And we will not be able to count on the Salon de la Porte de Versailles canceled postponed (read) nor on any state aid to boost sales this fall. Only the first novelties in 2010 could turn things around this winter, but in what proportion? Make way for complete summaries of the summer market !
