Summer review: the motorcycle and scooter market was hot this summer
The motorcycle market in France had a funny summer 2016: -8.7% in July then + 16.8% in August! In absolute value and at the end of the two months, there is however one less registration compared to 2015.. Site takes stock.
The market was hot this summer 2016
From the point of view of holidaymakers, the months of July and August 2016 were very satisfactory: temperatures above normal – sometimes very largely -, generous sunshine – record in August – and rainfall deficit on average of -20%. Nothing to do with the gloomy month of !
For motorcycle and scooter dealers, on the other hand, the last two months have been markedly more contrasted with a fall in sales in the first month (-8.7%) and a rebound in the second (+ 16.8%). But the study of the calendar makes it possible to smooth the evolutions of the market…
Indeed, the year 2016 penalized the month of July since it had two working days and one less dealership opening day than in 2015. On the contrary, August was favored with an additional day to register motorcycles. and new scooters and two more days of shopping.
Beyond that, it is necessary to put into perspective the progressions of the motorcycle market by recalling that for him, the summer period is a lean period: after the buying fever of spring due to the return of sunny days, bikers – and scooter riders in a to a lesser extent – calm down with the approach of the shows which unveil the following season’s…
Between June and July, the 125 cc motorcycle and scooter segment saw its number of registrations drop by a thousand units, then by around 1,500 between July and August. This is how small-displacement registrations in the eighth month of 2016 painfully exceeded 3800 units, while they exceeded 6300 in June. !
In large cubes, a proportionally comparable decline was observed between the first two months of summer (-2000 immats), then erosion accelerated the following month (-3700). Nothing alarming any time insofar as the segment of "+ 125" is more seasonal. In August, bikers go on vacation – on their "old" motorcycle? – and wait until the start of the school year to buy a new one, or even a brand new one !
Finally, from an accounting point of view, MNC underlines that in the end, the motorcycle market (125 and "more than 125") shows in July and August 2016 the same result as last year over the same period with a registration close: 24536 against 24537 (read our) !
