Stimulated this summer by sales of 125 cc motorcycles and scooters, the market for motorized two-wheelers over 50 cc (motorcycles) experienced a very calm September 2015: Site observed a decline of -1% of its registrations. Full analysis.

Last month, 11,773 motorcycles and scooters over 50 cc took advantage of the return to school and offices to leave (!) French concessions, against 11,892 in September 2014 (read our). As a percentage, the difference of 119 registrations translates into a decrease of -1%.

Negative, the performance is not deplorable: in 2014, the month of September benefited from good weather conditions – after a very gloomy summer – and an additional working day to post an increase of + 5.2% in his sales.

In 2015, on the contrary, weather specialists say that September marked the end of a series of six months during which temperatures were above normal. The rainfall was in slight deficit this ninth month but several disturbances sprayed the whole of France … and the bikers with !

In terms of working days this time, September 2015 and its 2014 counterpart were tied (22). On the other hand, the number of opening days of shops (from Tuesday to Saturday) was higher last month: 22 against 21 a year ago, or 4.76% of additional chance of hooking a customer. !

Among the 125, registrations increased very slightly in September 2015: + 0.8% compared to September 2014, ie around twenty more small motorcycles and scooters. However, the area is not as calm as it seems at first glance, on the contrary !

Behind the new and dashing leader Honda (+ 47%!), The pillars of the sector had a very turbulent ninth month: Yamaha fell -13%, Piaggio fell -8% and Peugeot fell -23%. The storm continues beyond with Suzuki (+ 25%), MBK (-30%), Kymco (+ 30%), Sym (+ 13%), Mash (-13%) and KTM (-30%)…

More seasonal than sales of 125 (1,000 more registrations in September than in August), sales of large-displacement vehicles jumped from just over 4,500 to 7,000 in one month. But the comparison is less striking between September 2015 ( 7,090 immates exactly) and September 2014 (7,247, or -2.2%).

Still leading the “125+” sector in France, Yamaha completed the ninth month without joy (-12%). Behind, Honda is progressing narrowly (+ 2%) while BMW regresses (-10%), Kawasaki laziness (-2%) and Suzuki de-distresses (+ 27%).

In the second half of the Top 10 manufacturers of large cubes, the sales of English-speaking Harley-Davidson and Triumph slow down (around -5% for both), those of the Italian Ducati jump (+ 15%), those of the Austrian KTM weaken (-26%) and those of the other transalpine Piaggio weaken (-15%).
