Motorcycle and scooter market: funny month of November
The law of 100 horses and the attacks which shook France got the better of the conditions (weather and calendar) very favorable to the motorcycle market in November, limiting the increase in sales to + 3.1%. MNC provides the penultimate review of 2015.
Funny November for the French motorcycle market
The conditions seemed to be in place for sellers of new motorcycles to have a solid month of November 2015. First of all, the overall score for November 2014 was not expected to be insurmountable since it was modeled on a heavy November 2013 (read our).
From a meteorological point of view, the eleventh month of 2015 proved to be very conducive to practice – and to purchase! – two-wheelers: "the average temperature was 2.7 ° C higher than normal, placing this November as the 3rd hottest November since 1900, behind 1994 and 2014", calculates Meteo France in its own monthly report.
Likewise, "on average in France and over the month, the rainfall is over 20%", continues the French official meteorological body, while"the sun has been very generous over most of the country". What make you want to ride, in short !
The calendar was also favorable: November 11 fell this year on a Wednesday, which limited the bridges and could increase the passages in the concessions … In addition, November 2015 had 20 working days against 19 last year, i.e. an increase of + 5% in activity (and sales!) easily pocketed…
More generally, finally, frightening traffic jams – a record broken in Ile-de-France on October 6 -, the price of gasoline down but still high and cars not so "green" as that – especially compared to motorcycles that consume less on the road and hardly waste parking – continue to favor motorcycles and scooters !
Despite all this, sales in France of motorized two-wheelers (excluding 50 cc) reached only 6,892 units last month. The market increase is therefore limited to + 3.1% and will be swept aside without qualms by statisticians due to the less working day….
Concession managers and their sales representatives may however defend themselves by pointing out that their store remained open one day less in November 2015: 19 days, from Tuesday to Saturday, compared to 20 days in November 2014..
The terrible attacks on Friday, November 13 in the capital also impacted the French market as a whole: for the French – whether they are bikers, scooter riders, a bit of both … – the earth has stopped turning and their two wheels with.
On the other hand, the on our territory – for 30 years! – has a perverse effect on the market: lovers of large engines only have one month to go and logically delay their purchase of sports, roadster, road or maxitrail…
Will the release of powerful motorcycles in January and the holding at Paris Porte de Versailles from the beginning of December make it possible to boost the motorcycle market? Case to be followed in the next MNC report.
