The passion for the Dakar, the desires of the steppes and adventurous motorcycles gradually died out in the 1990s. The offer evolved into two radically opposed paths: big road trails, and more fun machines, such as supermotards. But for some time now, we have been witnessing a return of the sharp Indiana Jones version motorcycle – imposing, powerful backpackers, carrying dreams of sands and pebbles. Moto-Guzzi is also entering this niche, preparing its Stelvio trail for the adventure. We presented it in November 2008 under the name TT, but Guzzi retained the first name NTX – Reference to the 750 NTX, a large “African” type trail that Guzzi marketed in the second half of the 80s.

Behind these 3 letters, there is a Stelvio in Bob Morane outfit; the color is unequivocal. The gear is already ready for moping away from the asphalt: the 1200 NTX is equipped with crash bars on the cylinders and (little refinement) on the end of the swingarm. Spoked rims are fitted with mixed-use tires; the rear is thinner than on the standard Stelvio (it goes to 150 in diameter) for better maneuvering in gravel. Hand protectors, small additional headlights and an aluminum shoe are already encouraging you to explore the possibilities of the machine. Of course, Guzzi did not forget to include good big suitcases à la “Touratech”, with a very Germanic profile but reinforcing the aspect of solidity. Under these attributes, the 1200 Stelvio NTX shows more than clearly its target: the BMW R 1200 GS Adventure. Both machines play in exactly the same category – BMW relying on its long experience, one would think the game was over. But the remarkable performance of the standard Stelvio and the charm of the twin Moto-Guzzi STELVIO 1200 NTX 2009de Mandello are far from pale in the face of Bavarian harshness. Guzzi has implemented its most evolved version of its famous twin-cylinder: the last 1151 cc with 4-valve cylinder heads, given for 105 hp, and its famous inimitable temperament..

ABS will also be available as an option. An asset for this machine which will still spend a lot of time on the road. In front of him, the offer may seem wide (Varadero, Tre-K, GranPasso, Tiger,….), But these models like the road and sport more. On the real rough roads where it promises to take us, the Stelvio NTX will especially have to fight the reference R 1200 GS Adventure, as well as the very expression of the Dakar, the KTM 990 Adventure. At a crossroads of years, it could even have crossed swords with a certain Aprilia Caponord Rally Raid.

However, the Guzzi is not given so easily. Its price is also approaching peaks, and driving a motorcycle of such size to face traps and ruts will be done with respect: the Stelvio NTX is not a small machine, and handling its 260 kg in the gravel will not be not as easy as with an enduro.
