Indian eFTR Jr. children’s motorcycle

Electro-Indian secret revealed

Harley-Davidson already has an electric motorcycle at the start with the LiveWire. Now Indian is following suit with the eFTR Jr. – but it is only an electrically powered children’s motorcycle.

If a motorcycle manufacturer has a name or a designation protected, that does not necessarily mean that it has to be followed by a corresponding model. However, in June 2020, the US motorcycle manufacturer I.ndian with patent authorities in Europe, Australia and in the USA protected model name eFTR, clearly infer a possible electric motorcycle. The registration should make it possible to use the designation eFTR for a purely electrically powered vehicle or important parts thereof.

Driving fun for the little ones

Now it is clear what the Americans have been protecting: The Indian eFTR is an electrically powered children’s motorcycle and has now been launched in the USA at a price of around 750 dollars. The 1.30 meter long eFTR is suitable for kids aged eight and over. The upper limit is a weight of almost 80 kilograms. Ergo adults can also romp around with the little Indian. The seat height is 59 centimeters, the wheelbase is given as 92 centimeters.

Indian

Indian does not name performance data, but it is clear that two power modes can be called up on the Razor electric motor. Level one allows a maximum of 16 km / h and offers 140 minutes of driving pleasure. In stage two, speeds of up to 25 km / h are achieved, but then the juice is already all after 65 minutes. Disc brakes on both wheels provide braking power. A USD fork is installed at the front and a central spring strut on a cantilever arm at the rear.

Visually, the eFTR emulates the 750 flat track racing machine. The dummy tank even comes in a carbon look. After the children’s bike that has now been presented, there is still a small hope of a large electric motorcycle from Indian, because the eFTR has Jr. for Junior as an addition to its name. Who knows if another senior will follow?

First attempt in 2016

Victory

Victory Empulse TT from 2016.

The Indian parent company Polaris had already presented an electric motorcycle concept under the brand name Victory with the Empulse TT in 2016. Victory took over the drive technology from the e-motorcycle manufacturer Brammo. The prototype, equipped with a manual gearbox, developed 54 hp and allowed a range of around 225 kilometers.
