The extra fantastic toy !
Large-wheeled scooters have had limited success in France. However, behind their draw of the first of the class hide remarkable performances. The Honda SH300i, for example, is a joyful man and a sacred tool in the city ! Test.
To live happy, live hidden !
Taking the style of the SH125 (read) which makes the owners happy – many of whom! – of the B license, Honda unveiled in 2007 a variation cubing 300 cc.
This scooter is making a good start to its career throughout Europe (21,159 units in 2008) but has experienced much more limited success in France (318). Site therefore had to test this two-wheeler, acclaimed by Europeans, shunned by the French…
The line and colors (silver, black and burgundy) of the SH300i are sober to say the least … It is also very difficult to quickly differentiate it from other large-wheeled scooters, especially from its little brother 125 cc. This is not very rewarding for the trendy city dweller for whom design is an important factor.
Nevertheless, this can turn into a real asset for the scooter rider interested in a discreet and efficient machine. On this ground, the SH300i is unbeatable as its exterior appearance hides the pleasure and enjoyment that one can have on its handlebars. This may make it less of a fashion item but it also has the advantage of not attracting lust !
Discreet but neat
The presentation and finish of the SH300i are very neat. There are the attributes and classic ergonomics of scooters with large 16-inch wheels, but also the flaws. Thus, the space taken up by the rear wheel encroaches on the space available in the trunk. The latter can only accommodate a very small jet helmet. Pity !
The Honda makes up for it by offering a flat floor and a folding hook to attach a bag. But for everyday and utility use, you’ll have to invest in a top case to be really quiet. Honda offers a 35-liter for € 164: it’s expensive but it is attached directly to the large luggage rack, without a plate.
In the apron, there is also a small storage compartment. It does not lock with a key but contains a convenient 12V socket for recharging a phone or a GPS.
Given the predominantly urban program that awaits the SH300i, we also regret the absence of warning and of a trigger to call the headlights on the left index finger. Very readable, the dashboard is satisfied with the union minimum, but the essentials are there: clock, fuel gauge, engine temperature, 2 trips, etc. No more is required from a utility machine.
A real bike
You are immediately at home riding the Honda. Barely bulkier than a 125, it hides its 300 cc well. Even if it is still almost 40 kg more than its little brother, the SH300i (169.1 kg fully loaded) offers a really immediate grip.
he also has the same saddle height as his younger brother: 785 mm. This double deck saddle is wide and comfortable. Only small problem to report, the space for (big) feet is counted on the flat floor, and by adding a bag, it is worse !
In addition, the proposed position is unique, unlike GT scooters which allow two postures: legs bent or extended. The use of the crutches, central and lateral, is obvious and reassuring. The same applies to all parking maneuvers undertaken with the engine off..
