It is the turn of the manufacturer Alpinestars to present its prototype of wireless electronic airbag: after Dainese (read our) and more recently Bering (read our), the Alpinestars initiative confirms the interest in this on-board technology which should now quickly take place in the equipment of bikers and scooter riders.

On the side of Alpinestars, as at Dainese, the development of this Alpinestars Electronic Airbag Technology began in early 2000 as part of the competition. Likewise, Italian safety equipment takes place – for the time being – on the brand’s pilot suits, with two cushions covering the shoulders and collarbones that fully inflate in less than 0.05 seconds via a mixture nitrogen gas.

Thanks to a central unit placed in the aerodynamic hump, the Alpinestars device manages the deployment process autonomously by quickly analyzing the measurements of multiple sensors which inform software comprising "complex algorithms" (but aren’t they all? ) and a large amount of data collected by test riders like John Hopkins, Casey Stoner and Mika Kallio in MotoGP.

Specificity of size: this airbag inaugurates a patented system of automatic recharging which would allow a pilot who fell for the first time and who would be back in the saddle before falling a second time (when it doesn’t want to …) to be protected again. !

For the time being, Alpinestars jealously keeps all other technical data concerning this airbag and just specifies that its research program will continue during the 2010 season in the various speed championships where the brand is present, in order to validate all the processes for be able to launch a model reserved for the track and one for road use.
