LMV 496: Lazareth’s flying motorcycle will take off at the end of January !
The latest creation of the brilliant "inventor preparer" Ludovic Lazareth is literally high: the workshop based in Annecy (74) will unveil on January 31, 2019 a stunning flying motorcycle equipped with four small turbines ! Video and presentation.
"They did not know that it was impossible, so they did it" … The famous expression of the American writer Mark Twain – creator of the mischievous Tom Sawyer in particular – serves as an illustration for Ludovic Lazareth’s latest project: the LMV 496. Kesaco? Nothing less than a … flying motorcycle !

This improbable achievement – partially revealed in the teasing video below – seems to be inspired by the, this 4-wheel motorcycle powered by a huge V8 of 470 hp: we thus find at the rear the Ducati Panigale hull, as well as the massive and low silhouette of this beast already at least original, in line with the creations of the imaginative Lazareth !
The main difference is that the four wheels of this LMV – probably for "La Moto Volante" – support turbines, like those used by jet planes! Reactors on a motorcycle: another frenzy worthy of a science fiction film ?
The project is certainly far-fetched … but not impossible from a technological point of view: these miniaturized turbines do exist and are used, for example, to propel model models. Lazareth turned to the German company JetCat, which produces precisely this type of thrusters and the various components necessary for their use..
After the interfile circulation, the flight over the lines ?!
The other partner in this project is NTN-SNR, a company of the Japanese group NTN which produces precision bearings. The goal ? Design a kinematics allowing the horizontal folding of the four wheels, in order to place the turbines on a vertical axis and thus allow the LMV 496 … to take off !
Here again, the operation – quite spectacular to see – is not without evoking the robots of the Hollywood saga Transformers … This flying motorcycle especially raises many questions, if only with regard to its very hypothetical homologation : will you need both a motorcycle license and an aviation license to pilot it ?!
Moreover, if this crazy project were to lead to a commercial reality, its circulation on the public highway would most certainly be limited: with its reactors probably very greedy in kerosene, we can already bet that this LMV 496 will not be authorized in (EPZs) !
The flying motorcycle, sweet fantasy or possible reality ?
Let’s face it: if this LMV 496 does honor to the creative genius of Lazareth, it nonetheless arouses a certain perplexity … Of course, its creator likes to repeat that with "imagination, creation has no more limit ", but all the same: a flying motorcycle? Powered by reactors ?! You imagine the scene in the city center: "Oops, sorry madam: I just burned your styling by taking off a little too fast"…

However, the concept of the flying motorcycle is not just a sweet fantasy of the Z series: remember that the Russian company Hoversurf has built a capable of flying for about 25 minutes thanks to propellers placed horizontally. Less dangerous than reactors … although !
The final version of this has also caught the eye of the police in Dubai (United Arab Emirates) who would have by 2020! Lightweight (114 kg), this Russian flying motorcycle could reach a speed of 100 km / h and costs around 150,000 dollars (around 130,000 euros).
From there to imagine that the LMV 496 of Lazareth could in the future replace the traditional BMW and Yamaha of the French police … The fact remains that this project will mark the spirits, which is already a first success for the preparer. Haut-Savoyard to whom the Minister of Industry and the National Institute of Crafts recently awarded the label !
