2019 Catalan GP report and results (Marquez winner)
Marc Marquez wins his fourth success of the 2019 MotoGP season after a Grand Prix of Catalonia led alone after the "strike" achieved in the first laps by his teammate Lorenzo on the Ducati of Dovizioso and the Yamaha of Rossi and Viñales. The Honda official escapes the championship, while Fabio Quartararo signs his first podium! Summary and rankings.
An overtaking too "Jorgeuilleux", four pilots on the mat: here is the incredible operation carried out by Lorenzo in turn 10 after only two laps of the Grand Prix of Catalonia !
The Mallorcan ignited by approaching this pin on the left and literally dragged Andrea Dovizioso – who started the weekend 12 points behind leader Marc Marquez – and the official Yamaha of Valentino Rossi and Maverick Viñales into his downfall. The action came after "DemoDovi" signed the holeshot in front of Marquez, Quartararo, Viñales, Petrucci, Rossi, Rins and Lorenzo.

The first lap will be marked by the falls of Karel Abraham in turn 7, then Bradley Smith in turn 10. The Aprilia test driver collides with his teammate Aleix Espargaro, forced to retire shortly after … Atmosphere assured this evening in the Italian team because Aleix actually injured his left knee during the collision and must go through the hospital of Quiron (Spain)…
Marc Marquez then passed Dovizioso in the first corner to steal first place … and that’s when everything goes wrong! Lorenzo – author of an exceptional start which sees him move from 10th to 4th place – believes he can imitate his box neighbor, perhaps also to prove that his trip to Japan with the HRC engineers was not in vain. .. But the Honda n ° 99 is much too far to attempt this action: "Loren-show" suddenly loses control under the pressure demanded from its front axle. !
Watch the dramatic moment that took,, and out of the race!

The height of bad luck: his sinking motorbike collided with the unfortunate Dovizioso, then collided with Viñales’ Yamaha! Rossi shoots straight ahead to avoid the bowling game, but in turn falls into the loophole after being hampered by Lorenzo’s Honda! Marquez was not asking for much and is forging more than a second on Petrucci, closely followed by Quartararo and Rins. At this stage, mass is said for the Honda official who is heading without trembling towards his 4th victory !
Oops, the dumpling…
In the boxes, Andrea Dovizioso shoots a six-foot-long head while Maverick Viñales turns his index finger on his temple to illustrate the stupidity of the maneuver and its author. The culprit, Jorge Lorenzo, limps to his motor home, aware of the enormity of his blunder…
"It’s my mistake," he believes he has to justify, as if there was room for doubt! "It’s a difficult turn and we were close. I’m sorry for Valentino and the other riders. The positive side is that I feel better on the bike," assures the n ° 99, referring to the parts brought back from his trip. at the HRC in Japan, including unseen appendages on the tank and changes to its position.
Valentino Rossi for his part throws in the towel after trying to start again … Second result in a row for the n ° 46, who had already made a mistake in Italy: rarely has the Doctor had such a difficult start to the season, he who has not been taxed since the 2017 Dutch GP almost two years ago !
The hecatomb continues on the track heated to white by the Catalan sun (51 ° C!) With the successive falls of Franco Bagnaia on his Ducati Pramac in turn 5, of Franco Morbidelli on his Yamaha-SRT and of Cal Crutchlow on his Honda-LCR in turn 4.
Definitely a complicated season for the English on the RC213V 2019, of which he does not appreciate the front axle or the management of the engine brake. The No. 35 has not been on the podium since the opening in Qatar (3rd) and seems to be on the verge of stealing the 2018 Honda of his teammate, Takaaki Nakagami !
First MotoGP podium for Fabio Quartararo !
Meanwhile, the battle rages on in the second group between Petrucci and Rins, which goes so far as to make contact with the Ducati in an upbeat interior attempt. The Suzuki rider, hot as embers at home, will finally lose contact after a "cata" braking that he somehow recovers in the asphalt escape route !
We haven’t seen the last of these two on the podium together! is the first to congratulate !

The third driver in this group took the opportunity to accelerate: Fabio Quartararo, qualified on pole, passed “Petrux” and sped off without looking back in the distant wake of leader Marc Marquez. The French beginner will no longer be worried until the checkered flag – no more than Marquez … – and climbs on his first podium in MotoGP !
Fabio takes his fifth podium in the Moto2 Grand Prix on this circuit he particularly likes: he won there last year in Moto2. A hell of a performance for the n ° 20 who competed in the race under sedatives to control the pain of his compartment syndrome operation which had occurred ten days earlier. !
The French rookie finished this GP of Catalonia 2.660 sec behind the untouchable Marc Marquez, signing his best result in the premier class since his 7th place in Texas. Above all, he concretizes the enormous potential perceived in him after several promising races, but disrupted by errors (engine timing at the start of the lap heats up in Qatar) or twists of fate (breakage of the selector in Jerez while he was running for the podium).
Your podium

It should also be noted that if Fabio had won this weekend, he would have become the youngest winner in history in the premier class: at 20 years and 57 days, the Yamaha rider would have beaten Marc Marquez who holds this record for precocity. since winning the 2013 Americas Grand Prix at 20 years and 63 days !
The French, already author of the record for precocity in pole position since the Spanish GP (20 years and 14 days), will no longer be able to worry the defending champion: during the next race scheduled in two weeks in the Netherlands, Fabio will be 20 years and 71 days old.
First Top 10 for Zarco
His compatriot Johann Zarco has achieved his goal of finishing in the top ten for the first time since joining KTM. Champagne ?! Yes and no: n ° 5 actually benefits from the countless crashes of this GP of Catalonia, with only thirteen drivers at the finish out of 24 at the start !
The 26.228 seconds which separate him from the winner say a lot about the lack of progress despite the evolutions of his RC16 (carbon swingarm, in particular). His teammate Pol Espargaro finished 7th 16.144sec behind Marquez, under the satisfied gaze of test pilot Dani Pedrosa: the two men congratulate each other happily at the finish, showing a warm team spirit that does not seem to be sane. ” extend on the French side of the box…
The point (s) in the championship
Marc Marquez started the weekend with twelve points ahead of Dovizioso, he finished it with 37 units over the Ducati rider! His victory associated with his rival’s first white result tipped the championship in his favor, even though his superiority was already evident. Even better for the Marquez clan: his brother Alex takes the lead in the Moto2 standings after also winning in Catalonia ahead of Tom Luthi !
In the end, it is clear that Lorenzo opens the way for his teammate with his error which widens a gap that Dovizioso was already struggling to contain! And to think that many feared that the competition between Marquez and Lorenzo would be detrimental to the HRC: it is exactly – and unintentionally – the opposite which happened during this seventh race of the season.
Alex Rins retains his third place 39 points behind the leader after a scrappy race against Danilo Petrucci. The Suzuki rider finally finished in 4th place after his brief exit from the track and preceded "Petrux" by three points in the provisional classification..
Fifth in the provisional, Valentino Rossi sees his gap on the leader climb to 68 points following this white result in Catalonia. Which means the Italian rider has conceded Marquez almost ten points per race on average since the start of the season….
The forties are ahead in the standings Jack Miller and Fabio Quartararo, who takes advantage of his splendid second place to come back to two small points behind the Ducati-Pramac rider. Fabio also confirms his place as a solid leader among the beginners, far ahead of Franco Morbidelli (12th), Joan Mir (14th) and Miguel Oliveira (17th).
Johann Zarco climbs to 16th place in the provisional, between Jorge Lorenzo and Miguel Oliveira. Finally, let us announce the arrival in the points of the French driver Sylvain Guintoli, 13th and last of this GP of Catalonia for his first wild card race on the Suzuki. With his three points scored in Spain, "Guinters" is ahead of the holders Abraham and Syarhin in the championship !
In the constructors’ championship, Honda leads the proceedings with 146 points against 131 pts for Ducati and … only 108 for Yamaha, which marks one of its worst start to the season since the era of 4-stroke in MotoGP. Iwata’s coat of arms is under direct threat from Suzuki (101 pts), while KTM (47 pts) and Aprilia (36 pts) are strongly behind.
