Road rallies - 11th Dourdou rally: 1st victory for Filleton, 3rd title for Toniutti! - 3 day tours

After a fight from another world in which Laurent Filleton (Aprilia 1000 Tuono) emerged victorious, the Yamaha official site rider Julien Toniutti (Yamaha MT09 Team 2B / Deletang) finished second and was crowned champion of France 2014. Report.

3 day tours

After a shorter night for some than for others, it starts again for three loops this morning. The weather seems to be holding up, but the rain is not far away. A small downpour very early this morning lets us predict that things could quickly turn bad … Fortunately it was only a false alarm: we will pass between the drops and this eleventh edition of the Dourdou rally will take place entirely in the dry !

Today the route is slightly different from that of the night. It only consists of a large loop of 120 km to be done three times.

The order of passage in the specials is the same as for the night stage: Limon first then Mouret, but separated by a large link instead of being close to each other like this night.

On the handlebars of his Yamaha MT-09, Julien Toniutti leaves relaxed this morning with the title in his pocket! Now the goal is to win the rally, which would be royal for a champion at a final….

But things cannot always go as we would like and Laurent Filleton also wants to win this rally, just like Luc Deiana (Honda 450 CRM HM), third in the night stage, 1.63 seconds behind the leader … Anything is possible with today’s six stages !

From the first passage through Limon, Laurent Filleton drives home the point and posts the best time (2’14.54). He is followed by Luc Deiana and Julien Toniutti but in fourth position on this time it is Benoît Nimis on Yamaha 450 YZF who approaches the leading trio, while he finished the night stage in 5th position.

Benoît will unfortunately not go much further: following an engine failure during the following link, the number 7 of the championship must forfeit.

The connection is very technical, gravely and twirling … You should not linger too long to contemplate the yet magical landscape !

Mouret Special: Filleton again! Julien Toniutti, determined to go find Laurent, stalls at the start of this special, 5 seconds off the top! He restarts in disaster and leaves direct without looking at the stopwatch, having had the impression that the last 5 seconds had largely passed … but nay, he left before zero and received a 5-second penalty: this is the rate !

Luc Deiana takes the opportunity to snap the second fastest time, ahead of Renaud Neumann on Honda 1000 VTR F.

Another driver will not finish the race, but for breaking the guy … Nick Ayrton, titled French Classic champion since the Ain rally, gets a good ride on his Suzuki 1100 GSXR by negotiating badly a chicane of straw bales installed in a too fast straight section of the Mouret special (the said chicane does not prevent arriving at nearly 170 km / h …)! Nick is suffering from a serious open fracture to his hand … Get well mate !

At the end of this first loop of the day, the 15 min assistance break passes quickly. The night was short and the day is going to be long … Come on, a sip of energy drink, the fuel, the chain, a general look and fire, it starts again !

Limon, special 7: Julien Toniutti, wound up like a clock, wildly whips the Yamaha MT-09 of Team 2B / Deletang and takes the best time in 2’14.87, almost eight tenths ahead of Luc Deiana (2’15.65 ) and 1.57 seconds ahead of Laurent Filleton’s Aprilia 1000 Tuono (2’16.44).

We then take the road through Aubrac: how beautiful! Fatigue is starting to really make itself felt but the road book is well done, the route sublime and the marshals very nice … Especially at a passage control at the very end of the end of the end of a lost corner, where the marshals timekeepers were set in smile mode … !

The end of the second day loop is approaching: we arrive at special 8, in Mouret. Our new French rally champion, Julien Toniutti, is excited! He sticks here nearly 2 seconds to Laurent Filleton (1’53.82 against 1’55.72). Third time for Florent Derrien, the number 2 driver from Le Mans on the handlebars of his KTM 690 SMR, in ambush behind the leading trio since the start of this Aveyron event, slams 1’56.74 here..

Last 15 min break before the last loop: a saving break for some like Jean-Charles Avrillon, the pilot of the KTM 990 SMR n ° 311, who ends this loop with a puncture at the rear and benefits from the generosity of his assistant Daniel (in the end not on strike!), owner of an identical motorbike allowing him to replace his punctured wheel. Daniel and Jean-Charles, both from Clermont, are very united…

Finally, a last grueling lap but everything can still be decided for the rally podium.

Last stop at Limon: once again, Julien Toniutti’s n ° 1 Yamaha MT-09 is in the lead, followed by Laurent Filleton’s Aprilia 1000 Tuono and Luc Deiana’s Honda 450 CRM HM. Julien sticks this time 2.45 seconds to Laurent … victory is near !

After a last passage on these magnificent small Aveyron roads (the sky starting to darken, it is time to end it!), We are back in Mouret for the tenth and final special of this eleventh edition of the Dourdou rally.

1’52.61! No, it’s not a rocket or a fighter plane that just blew up the clock, but indeed the Yamaha MT-09 of the 2014 French rally champion, Julien Toniutti! The official Yamaha rider of Team 2B gave everything to try to snatch victory, but wasted effort: Laurent Filleton also pushed his Aprilia 1000 Tuono to its limits and obtained a time of 1’52.84 … The victory of the rally will thus come back to him for only 34 hundredths of a second in cumulative rally times.

Julien Toniutti wins the day stage, but the final victory goes to Laurent Filleton (Aprilia 1000 Tuono) who wins the 11th rally of Dourdou. Julien Toniutti is second on the handlebars of the Yamaha MT-09 n ° 1 of Team 2B / Deletang, third Luc Deiana on Honda 450 CRM HM.
