Road rallies - Rally of Corsica: the raid of Corsican pilots! - The candidates for the podium

Unbeatable on their land, the Corsican pilots have once again proven that they are masters at home. Michel Marchini (Honda 450 HM) wins the 5th Corsica Rally ahead of two other island drivers for a podium with the heads of the Moors !

The candidates for the podium

Bad luck for Stephane Ricciarelli: the winner of the Rallye de Corse 2010 (read) fell in reconnaissance a few days before the event and broke his wrist, in the same way as Julien Toniutti during the reconnaissance of the Sun Rally (read ). Less than a week before the race, it’s too short to be on the attack and Stephane has to give up taking the start.

The absentees are quite numerous because with the seven rallies of the French championship this year, many have overlooked Corsica. Others have been victims of the vagaries of motorsport, such as our famous Italian driver Romano Laghi who had to withdraw from Friday evening following a broken clutch in his BMW HP2. There are therefore a total of 114 pilots at the start on Saturday morning instead of the usual 150.

Despite Stephane Ricciarelli’s withdrawal, there are still many contenders for victory for this 5th Corsica Rally. And if Julien Toniutti, the Team Site rider on his official KTM 990 Superduke, or Nicolas Derrien on his BMW F 800 R are fully motivated, we have to count on other excellent islanders such as Maxime Olivieri riding a Husqvarna 450 , Michel Marchini on Honda 450 HM, Carlo Scanu on BMW 450 GX or even Joseph Campocasso on Husqvarna 510 … In the hands of such pilots, the "Supermot" single cylinders, more suited to the roads of this Corsican rally, risk giving a hard time for our best sports or roadster pilots…
