The eighth round of the World SBK 2015 took place yesterday in Misano, Italy. To complete our live reports, here are the statements of the Superbike riders as well as the Site analysis of the two Italian races.

Statements by SBK pilots in Italy

Site readers – who, as everyone knows, are a little more fortunate than the others – were already able to experience yesterday, almost live, the unfolding of the Mondial Superbike and Supersport races on the Misano circuit (for latecomers, read, then).

Here are the declarations of the pilots who distinguished themselves on Sunday … Honors to the winners !

Tom Sykes, 1st then 5th:
"A lot of people would dream of a weekend with a pole position, a win and a fifth place. We just weren’t able to confirm in the second run. I don’t think I started very well in the second race. I lacked grip from the start and it was hard to move up the standings. When I started to fight with other riders I couldn’t be good where I needed to be, but we tried everything".

"I knew both races would be difficult today, but the first one was brilliant. We just weren’t able to repeat that in the second race. There were positives and negatives this weekend. Let’s move on to america now"…

Jonathan Rea, 2nd then 1st:
"We obviously have to start thinking about the championship now, but I wanted to win today. In the second race, Davide Giugliano was a good benchmark to measure my pace. A few laps from the finish, I launched an attack to pass. We had a very good race and in the end I think we are using our rear tires better than others. We changed our choice of rear tire compared to the first race which had always been our intention as it was cooler this morning. Kawasaki gave us a bike that could win and they proved it with Tom’s victory in the first round and mine in the second. I’m so grateful to be in this position, to have the opportunity to fight for the win !"

Davide Giugliano, 4th then 2nd:
"We were very close to the podium in the first heat, and we got there in the second. I’m still a little disappointed because I wanted to win here. Unfortunately, the Friday session (he fell twice the first day, editor’s note) and the fact that I was not able to work effectively due to my physical condition did not help us".

"Today I lacked grip a bit during both races. The rear tire was slipping and that made it difficult for me, I couldn’t ride the way I wanted on the last few laps. But I’m happy overall because I was able to lead many laps in the second run. Given my late start to the season at Imola, it shows that the bike has evolved and that we are working really well".

Chaz Davies, 3rd then 4th:
"It’s good to know that I gave Ducati his 800th Superbike podium! I really enjoyed the first race. Given my position on the grid (11th, Editor’s note), I knew it was important to get off right, and that’s what I managed to do before I got into a real battle with Rea. We both had a good pace and despite a few tough moments the race was clean and fair. It was one of the best of the year actually, so I’m happy with this result.".

"I’m disappointed that I didn’t reach the podium in the second run, but I suffered more from a lack of grip and couldn’t find a way through Haslam. Anyway, we must be happy with the results achieved today and now we turn to Laguna Seca".

Leon Haslam, 5th then 3rd:
"We took a big step forward for the second race, especially thanks to the higher temperatures which make my Aprilia RSV4 RF run really well. The first series were disappointing: we were all very close and I lost a few precious meters in the peloton. In the first run, however, I made a few small mistakes. The grip was not at its best and although I felt fast on most of the track, I was losing ground in some places. Of the two possible options for the rear tire, we selected the one that gave us the most confidence, even if the second, used by a few rivals, had proven its worth this morning.".

"All things considered, I am happy with both of my results. Getting a podium in front of the Italian fans is always nice. We managed to gradually accelerate throughout the weekend, we improved our equipment on decisive points. It will be hot in Malaysia and the United States, so we will be able to do some nice things"

Max Biaggi, 6th (x 2):
"I am happy with this weekend. Everything went well and we didn’t make a single mistake. Once again I would like to thank the Piaggio group, Aprilia and the guys at Noale who made it possible for me to take full advantage of this fantastic opportunity. The second race went better than the first. I finished about 5 seconds behind the winner, which is really not much. Too bad I ended up a bit far in the first laps. I still can’t take full advantage of the tires from the start. After halfway, however, I felt fast but I had difficulty overtaking and I lost a few tenths of a second on each lap.".

"This kind of return to competition is certainly not easy, but it has been a great weekend, approached in a different spirit from the driver who races full time in the championship. I am now waiting for the icing on the cake: Sepang! This event in Misano was a kind of break-in and we can consider ourselves that it was really satisfactory. Next time we will be able to do well".

Sylvain Guintoli, 9th (x 2):
"Today I had to fight hard during the two races: all I saw on my sign was "+ 0-1" because I was being hunted by everyone! In the first run, on the colder track, we felt significant tire wear in the second half of the race and the pace slackened a bit. The second race was more solid but we still lack a bit of rhythm compared to the leaders. I gave my maximum today and won my own battles in each race. We have a bit of time before the next race to try to put together a few different plans and strategies for the second half of the season, but we need to find something because we are still lacking speed.".

Randy de Puniet, retirement then 17th:
"This Sunday was tough. In the first run I had a problem with the front brake and stopped to try a different system, but it didn’t provide the improvement I was looking for. In the second run, we changed everything: it was better for four laps, but then I struggled again. Now we need to focus on Laguna Seca, solve the brake problem and improve the chassis tuning. I am disappointed because I was more confident following the Portimao test (Monday after the Portuguese test, editor’s note) but unfortunately it didn’t".
