Statements from the second Superbike race

Max Biaggi 1st: "I was happy with my 2nd place in the 1st heat even though, to be honest, I was aiming for the maximum on this track. I got it in round 2: we made a few changes to the rear suspension and gearbox and it turns out that it worked well. After following Rea for a while I realized I was faster and passed him. From that moment on, I attacked to the limit without thinking about tire wear and the track proved me right. I want to thank my team. The guys support me and believe in my indications: the results confirm it. There are still a lot of points to distribute so I’m not going to look back on the scores and instead continue to stay focused race after race. It’s the right philosophy ".

Jonathan Rea 2nd: "The second race was not that bad and well done to Max who drove very well. I tried to fight but I had nothing left on the left of the tire, which did not look like the one I had in the first heat. Finally, our team performed much better this weekend and we made some very good changes during practice and qualifying. Our bike is difficult to shift from track to track, but we really got the best out of it this weekend. Now I’m off to the Suzuka Eight Hours, but I can’t wait to get back to my home crowd in three weeks at Silverstone".

Michel Fabrizio (DNF then) 3rd: "In the first heat, I immediately understood that I had a problem because I couldn’t attack and the bike started to vibrate abundantly. After a while, I couldn’t change the gears anymore so I had to return to the pits. It’s a shame because I was coming back to Toseland and thought I could have a good race, maybe even reach the podium. The second round went much better. I defended myself and I am satisfied with the result although of course I am sorry for Xaus".

Leon Haslam (8th then) 10th: "It’s hard to say today how disappointed and frustrated I am. If I considered the fault to be mine, I would immediately raise my hand. We first encountered grip issues with the new tires at Misano. No matter what, it didn’t seem to work. We took the new tires in the 1st round (still in Misano, NDLR) and I had a poor result, so we changed to old tires in the second run, got back to basics, and I finished second! We worked with the new gums all weekend (in Brno this time, Editor’s note), and we struggled all weekend. We did manage to improve the bike a bit today, but it was not easy to ride. The new tires have more grip, but getting the bikes to run with them is another problem. Few pilots have arrived there and the majority struggles. The tire in the 2nd heat did not work at all and I had trouble finishing the race: at this point! The highside loomed over me all the time and I don’t think I was passed by so many people all year round! Cal (Crutchlow) presumably had a similar tire and found it bad enough to pit and change. Although his second tire was the same, he behaved in a completely different way and he was able to roll a second faster barely out! I’m trying to think about the positives to take from this weekend and … can’t find any. The only thing I can take from this is that I won’t be using these new tires again. We will go back to the old ones, to the basic settings that we know: I am convinced that I could turn much faster and that I will fight for the podium again.".
