The Italian team Althea Racing will field an 1199 Panigale in Evo configuration on the grid for the 2014 World Superbike. This bike will be ridden by Niccolo Canepa, second in the Superstock 1000 cup last year, riding a Ducati..

Titled in 2011 with Carlos Checa and the Ducati 1198, the Althea team had preferred the world champion, rather than an 1199 Panigale in development. A wise decision, a fortiori, since their colt Davide Giugliano finished 6th in the 2013 World Championship, far ahead of the Ducati riders….

For the 2014 season however, the team boss, Genesio Bevilacqua, has decided to bet on the Bologna Superbike … but in his Evo configuration. Or roughly speaking, a motorcycle equipped with a "Stock" engine and a "Superbike" chassis. !

For the Ducati factory, next year, the Althea team will act as the reference team in the Evo subclass. Davide Giugliano having been promoted to official Ducati rider (alongside Chaz Davies, read), Niccolo Canepa will take control of the machine prepared by the men of Bevilacqua.
